all time best gas mileage?
all time best gas mileage?
I just took a trip from ohio out to maryland to the ocean, and i ended up getting 34 miles to the gallon! Got here with a little under a quarter tank left, odd thing is i took it last year too and it only got 32 to a gallon last year, the only difference is the fender well intake and i fixed my cold air temp sensor. Oh and the ac frosted the vents lol, does anyone else use the 92-99 glove box as a mini fridge like i do?.....

Re: all time best gas mileage?
My best was a freakish 45.8 MPG. 66 miles and 1.44 gallons. My car is somewhat of a phenomenon since I routinely see upper 30s providing I stay at 55 all highway.

I was at 65-75

Re: all time best gas mileage?
the quality of gasoline has the most to do with it. I've posted several times how I thought something was really wrong with the '92 SSE when I first joined. The wife and I took the wife's (brand new) '09 CTS and the '92 SSE to a Texaco station. We filled them both up at the same time. Both cars got within .2 mpg of each other - 15mpg. That's when I knew the oil companies were putting it to us with trash for gas. If you have an exceptionally good or bad mpg on a tank of gas, you either got a really good or bad tank of gas. jmho - BC

I always think that the tank didn't fill to the same spot when I get high or low numbers. My best at filling up at the same pump was 29 on my 95. That was 60mph on interstate.

Re: all time best gas mileage?
My 95 SE back in the day would see 33 Mpg running at 75 Mph.. But that was back when gas was not 10% ethanol.. The last trips I took it on it pulled 31 Mpg all day long loaded to the ground with the AC on..
With the 97 PCM and the low lock up speeds I get 24 in town.. I have reset the Average Miles Per Gallon several times and consistently get 24.. Cruising at 44-50 Mph I can see as much as 42 Mpg..
On the gas, I am and have been using Mobil quite a bit over the last year.. I ended up getting gas there and did it as I was there to fill the gas can and the car was low so I figured WTH and filled the car too... The car seemed to run better and the MPG's went up a couple as well.. So I continue to use that Mobil station to refuel.. From what I could figure out iirc that Mobil is a Top Tier fuel if that makes a difference..
So the Best my 95 has done on the road was 33 @ 75 Mph.. Worst was 29 due to a lot of road work.. The worst I ever did in town was 14( failed O2 ) and the best is 26..

I've gotten a best of 27mpg in my wifes 01' SE. Last tank full we both got 23mpg's. I drive pretty easy but carry a lot of parts in the car so I bet that doesn't help and the wife is somewhat of an aggressive driver lol. Both I believe need new O2 sensors.

Re: all time best gas mileage?
Best I ever had in the 00 was 34mpg on the interstate doing 80ish mph. If I babied it right at 70 I could usually squeeze out 30+ I didn't get a good chance to try it out after I finally fixed the misfire though it wasn't too long after that when the tranny died

Re: all time best gas mileage?
Right at 30 for my ssei going 70 to 72 on interstate using 93 from same gas station as always. Best full tank was 47 is ... well that's as far as I was willing to push it with a broke gas gauge lol
Re: all time best gas mileage?
Im going to use 93 on the way home and see if it gets any better

Re: all time best gas mileage?
Octane will not change fuel economy. Don't waste your money.
Re: all time best gas mileage?
Didnt think it would my mustang has a tuneable computer and i can take advantage of octane with that but i figured a stock computer wouldnt be able to take advantage.

Re: all time best gas mileage?
Exactly. Without tuning for the difference in fuel, nothing will change.
