Is it a "good" deal, or just a low price?

I want to eventually put 18” wheels with 235 x 50 / 18 tires on the ’05 SE so that I can put some “real brakes” on it. I’ve found some very reasonably price wheels. I also know there are some things that are not a good deal no matter how low the price.

Proline Alloy wheels
Wheels alloy 18 x 7 ½ 5/115 40mm offset $54.50 each

Wheels (Z brand?) alloy 18x8 5x115 40mm offset $120 each

It will take long a time to save for the wheels I really want. By that time the car will probably be worn out.

!!!!! $54.50 for an 18 inch alloy wheel seems unreal. Is that price correct? Even a new steel 18 inch wheel costs more.

I have no experience with Proline wheels, I don't know anyone who has had Proline wheels. Maybe someone with experience with this brand can comment.

I have seen and purchased my share of wheels. Decent alloys that are functional in 17 or 18 inch seem to start around $100 to $120 today. I bought a set of American Racing 17 inch wheels (Maverick Model now made in china) in 2013 for my 2002 SLE for $135 each. Look good, balanced without too many wheel weights and no problems so far. I am also saving for a different set that will cost at least $300 each by the time I get to them!!

I had Proline rims on the Cr-v they where pretty good I ran them for about 4 years and still had them on the car when the engine blew but I was told by the guy who put my tires on that one of the rims had warped, so if you can get 4 years out of them for that price I say go for it!

For the Proline Alloys: 18x7, there's your problem. You won't be able to run 235 tires without sidewall bulge, which will sacrifice handling response. 18x8 will be ideal.

Cheap rims may work, especially if you like the style, but do keep in mind that in this low end price range, you're going to be getting heavy cast wheels (sprung weight detrimental to acceleration, handling, and braking) that, even with the extra mass, may not stand up to standard road abuse for very long, or they may suffer from paint/powder coating/corrosion issues fairly quickly. You do get what you pay for.

The cheap China RTX Zen 17x7.5 winter alloys I ran on the GXP had corrosion after only one winter. Thankfully I didn't care about them too much.
