"rebuilt" supercharger

I can buy a supercharger from a local junk yard for around $50, the guy at the yard told me that it has been rebuilt but I haven't saw it and even if I did see it I wouldn't know what to look at. Said they just recently got the car in, owner told him it was rebuilt recently but the bottom end of the motor went bad. Cant remember if he said it was a 96 or 98

So I guess I'm asking what I should look for when I look at it, and if should buy it for that price

Are you doing a top swap on your SLE?

If the pulley spins free without resistance or grinding noise and there is no rotational play back and forth and the coating on the rotors looks good then buy it.... if it is a 98. 96 has different vacuum routing and I don't remember if they can be swapped, I will let someone else confirm that though.

I have thought about doing a top swap on it. If I get this sc it might help motivate me to do it, I also have friends with SSEIs and GTPs so a spare can't hurt any lol.

I plan on looking at it tomorrow so I will check the pulley and the year for sure

If doing a top swap just look for a blown L67 and get it all in one shot.

It has been a thought. A family friend that runs a wrecker service/body shop/car lot (where I got mine) had a 02 ssei with a blown motor that I was told I could use as a parts car but I was at college, guess I should see if he still has it or not. Plus it was black instead of my weird dark blue

That dark blue is a sweet color when cleaned up and swirl free though

Very true, I'm about to spend a good amount of time tomorrow cleaning it. I'm just having trouble matching paint for it though haha, but thanks on the reply and the info

That was a good read, although it has decided to rain all day so I didnt get to detail it. So I decided to hook up my 4 channel amp which has gone smooth up until the front doors. Also a friend of mine just bought the supercharger and said the car was a 92, so I think I avoided a headache there.

Yea '92 had the gen II M62, no way it would even come close to working on a Series II engine so definitely avoided a headache.
