Trans Fixed Not Sure How!

Post by Blownville »

I just want to sum things up after asking questions about my trans and then ending up swapping out. Just to recap my trans started doing the couple hundred rpm surge in lockup so I added Lucas and nothing changed. Then I was told to try Seafoam and put that in but I then saw almost no lockup at all. It would kick in slipping and then bounce back out and never stay locked. So my brother got me a 90K mile trans with a 1 year 12K mile warranty. We swapped in the replacement trans. and it still had a very small 100 rpm shudder in lockup. So I had it tuned by a someone local who knows what they are doing. After the tune the shifts are great but the shudder was a lil worse. So we tuned the lock up to kick in after 45 only. That didn't really help and the shudder was closer to 300 rpm fluctuation now and we were stumped. So I had my bro drive with me for a while and we started unplugging first the EGR no change, then the TPS and still no change, then we unplugged the MAF and it wouldn't do it anymore. So we went to the store and bought another MAF and plugged it in. Now this time the shudder was even harder and worse as we test drove for a while! So back to the garage to try an extra computer that came with my car. Plugged it in and had nothing at all. It wouldn't even turn over or anything. So swapped the old one back in and then fired right up. We also wiggled the ground on the core support in front of the computer that just to make sure it wasn't broke or anything. Fired the car up and went for a test drive and wouldn't you know it the car has not done the shudder at all since!!! We are not 100% sure what exactly fixed it unless the comp needed to relearn with the new MAF??? Is this something it does?

I have put over 1500 miles on it with no issue as we fixed it just before we left on this family vacation.

Probably needed to do a security relearn on the PCM.

Could have been the ground, could still be the MAF. Parts store MAF's are notoriously bad...
