Project: Oldsmobille 88 LS

Post by tytotheler92 »

I've wanted a Bonneville since I drove one when I was 17. It was a 94 or 95 SSE. I fell in love with the interior and ride, but ended up buying a Buick Century. HUGE MISTAKE. Honestly however, I love little trucks. So from where I jumped over to the S-Series and have since owned 4. From a lowered extended cab Xtreme to a 4WD Blazer.
I lowered one of my 4WD Blazers, but it got totaled a few months ago so I bought it's exact twin as a replacement. Its going to stay stock height. :btruestory:

But anyways, I finally bought an H body. It's for my little sister, but I'll still get to drive it. It's not a Bonneville, but its close enough and fell into my lap and is absolutely loaded.

Anyways, heres the specs:

1998 Oldsmobile 88 LS (An LSS without the S/C)
133k (Ha! its bearly broken in!)
Power Leather Buckets
Floor Shift
Fog Lights
Toyo tires with less then 2k on them

Um...What else is cool on these?

Oh! And rusted brake lines and fuel lines.

This...is why it fell into my lap.

And friend of mine called me and said hey, you want this?

Image

Image

I said sure! So their membership AAA towed it here.

Image

Image

Image

After a few scares about the oil pressure light being on... (Hey, how was I supposed to know that was common!)

Image

Found out all is good. Stupid oil pressure sender.

So I replaced the AC Compressor with a Bypass Pulley since it was seized.

Fixed the Bank 2 Sensor 1 O2 Wiring.

Image

So at this point 2 weeks later it looks like this:

So yeah! Also, your 25 picture per page limit sucks!

Regardless, more updates soon.

A similar story to how I got my Olds. I was actually shopping for a Bonnie and just stumbled into the LSS. Looks like you're making some great progress on it so far. Good luck!

Sadly, it won't be road legal until May 13th due to Ohio being dumb with rebuilt vehicles and that being the first appointment I could get for inspection, WHICH is only an inspection to make sure the parts are not stolen, and not a safety inspection. We don't have safety inspections...we do however have emissions inspections in my county. Ohio is so weird.

Anywho, I'm going to buy a few cans of undercoating and grind down some scale on the floor pans.

The subframe looks good, along with the mounts, so I think this car should be good for a while. Might as well make it last!

Anyways, did I mention the blueish backlighting is ultra classy?

I really did like the Olds 88's more than the Lesabres.... Its not like we mod our H bodies here* looks other way, whistles * a mild tune will really wake the car up..

I think for the time, and even now These are some really good driving cars, a lot of new cars just don't compare..

And I still have a 95 Trans Sport in my fleet, with an 06 Buick Lacrosse 3800 III under series II induction...LOL...

Why does no one make replacement metal fuel lines at this point?

I'm surprised.

I've always loved the Le Sabres and Oldsmobiles more than the bonnies. I just keep ending up with the Pontiacs somehow.

Nice car and nice work.

Ohio definitely is scatterbrained when it comes to inspections. Some counties do emissions checks and some dont. Fortunately, Stark County doesnt and Guernsey County doesnt either, so Greg and I are both pretty safe there, although it was never a big deal in Summit, when I lived in Akron (of course, I wasnt driving a 28 year old car at the time either).

Ty, thats a pretty sweet looking ride you have there. The blue lights in the instrument cluster really are pretty sweet. Keep up the good work, dude.

Car looks good!

Nylon fuel lines are easy to fix, just need some new line to splice in and the proper push-to-connect fitting. Takes like 5 minutes max. But you have to get parts from online or an industrial supply as I don't think the auto parts stores have caught on yet. More likely to have the metal lines from the tank rot than get a leak in the nylon lines.

Yeah, I really wanted a Bonneville for some time. This is a Bonneville, but with a WAY nicer interior, so I'll deal without the awesome front end and trunk lid.

And actually, the Metal lines are what need replaced. The nylon lines all seem good.

For now.

Haha.

The 88 LS with a floor shift is not very common at least from my experience, nice to see one being fixed up!

The 25 pic per page limit is from the days when many had super slow internet, lol. Good on you for actually reading the forum rules though!

So why won't these work on a 98?

Or is it just because people assume that brake lines don't need done on a 98 yet that don't like in the salt belt?

And thanks all for the comments. Most of my friends thing I'm insane for wanting to fix one up.

^^Still need some answers on that brake line info.

I saw on here that buffing leather with an actual orbital buffer can remove old grease and *shoot*. So I did.

Tada!

They look almost new!

Image

The back had a black film on it from what I assume was old grease. Idk, I know the PO worked night shift in a factory, not sure what they made.

Either way, its gone now.
