Tranny does not shift into gear!! Please help!!!
So I was leaving work today and everything was normal until I came to a stop. As I pressed the gas to accelarate I noticed the engine was revving like in neutral. I shifted to low 2 pressed the gas and then shifted to drive and the car accelerated normally. On the next stop it did not go in to D or 3rd gear. It only went into gear 2. What's going on? I would greatly appreciate all your knowledge in this matter.

How much would it cost me to have it re-built?

Over $1500 for sure. My brother is a mechanic and works for a small dealer and found me one through one of his salvage yards. Getting a 90K mile trans with a 1yr 12K mile warranty for $500. I think that is an awesome deal! I think you are better off finding a decent mileage replacement trans. I would stick to 80-130K mile range and make sure you service it when you put it in.

Well I decided to do a complete tranny rebuild and at the same time change the rack and pinion and a couple of outer tie rods. Total cost parts and labour was $3900.00 with a 3 year warranty on parts and labour. The tranny now shifts a lot smoother than before and the steering is effortless. Did I pay too much for a 14 year old car? Your comments are appreciated.
