Got the kit. I'll repaint them tonight.

How do you guys feel about painting the brackets red too?

At 200-250 degrees you are ok. Powdercoat ovens bake at 350-450. I painted mine with VhT hi temp paint. Never used Duplicolor so have no opinion. I don't really drive my GXP much. It is mostly for the occassional drive to work and car shows.

I'm just a big believer in if you are going to do a brake job replace the calipers. They are cheap enough now it just makes sense. Especially if we are talking a daily driver.

I think I paid 85 bucks per after core return for my fronts and 50 or so for the backs.

I did both brackets and calipers in red and quite happy with that. The more red the better, as it stands out a little more.
If you like black, paint them both black so no one can see them......

Why are you wishing you did black brackets?

I think I'm going to have them powdercoated to be honest with you all. Might be foolish, but at least I can feel happy with it. My big concern is that I've called two body shops so far that don't want to disassemble the calipers for me. One of them also was concerned with me having them powdercoated since they could get damaged. Does anyone know, if fully disassembled, if they could actually be damaged during powdercoating?

Interesting. There's a lot of gray in between but the red does look good. What size rotors does the Monte use? And what size rim? It makes the rotor/caliper look very small in that picture.

Interesting.

Well I got quoted a VERY reasonable price for both labor and powder coating so the I was given an estimate of $200 for the entire removal, disassembly, painting, and reassembly...we'll see if that changes the day of.

First day of rain yesterday and my brand new calipers now look old and pathetic. The front calipers have been on the car for less than 2 weeks. The rear calipers less than a week.

They are now both rusted in multiple areas. I still plan to have them powder coated, albeit it in a month. Do you think this is too long to wait?

The front calipers won't rust, they are aluminum. The rears may get surface rust, but if they were painted good they shouldn't rust either.

Were they painted at all? They were just ordered and put on the car brand new (probably remanned) by the dealer.

Are they red or silver looking? All the rebuilt GXP calipers I have seen are bare with no paint on them. If they are red then they are painted or powdercoated.

No disassembly required. Just clean with the spray, wipe and paint. Just have to take off the wheels for access.
.....and you can touch up anytime without much prep. It really is magic paint.

They were silver. Now they're this:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it LOOKS like rust. Could it be something else? The brakes and rotors are new too so maybe it's something else? A little coincidental that it rained all day yesterday though...

The front calipers should be aluminum, my guess is brake dust sitting on them and rusting, not the caliper itself, the rears are rusting though.

Honestly though not that big of a deal, wire brush and brake cleaner to clean them up then paint them and no more worries.

LOL when I first saw the pic I thought you painted them gold.
That is so gross......and you paid someone to do that?!

Cast iron will rust after one wetting...and if there is any salt mixed in.....

The duplicolor paint dries to touch almost as fast as you can brush it on.

It's NOT worth taking them off anymore. Use the brush-on Duplicolor with them still mounted and forget about it.
