Transmission/Oil

Post by jenkins »

I bought the supplies to chagne my transmission oil a little while ago. I don't know if the oil has been changed before or not so it may still be oil from when the person before me bought the car. 14 years. Should I change the oil or not? Some people say don't do it since it's been so long and some say go ahead. What do you guys think? Also with the transmission, sometimes when I am driving and as the car shifts gears the car will make a loud bang. I am thinking this is the transmission any experience on what is going on here?

thanks,
Aaron Jenkins

The bang could possibly be the front Trans mount.

I change my fluid every 15k whether it needs it or not. It's good insurance (and it's usually turning brown by that time).

I say do it. If there are pre-existing issues it may make them worse but if that is th case the Trans was on its way out anyways.

I say having clean fluid is Better than brown mud for Trans fluid.

Changing the fluid is alright, what you want to avoid is fluid flushing at high mileage.
