wipers wont shut off 1996 bonneville

Post by ad356 »

even with the wipers off the wipers will continue to run. it just started doing this one day. this is the first GM car i have had with this style of wiper swtich that has actually had this problem. what do i do to fix it? if i put the switch between off and delay i can get them to stop but really that's kind of cheating. put the switch in OFF they run non-stop. do i have to dissamble the column to repair this annoying issue? what does the part required to fix that cost? also that *dang* climate control, i hate it, hate it hate it. anytime the car looses battery power it doesnt heat for in next couple of weeks. its terrible when you are dealing with negitive temperatures like we have had this miserable winter. i know you switch the climate control to off if you are servicing the car before you disconnect the battery, but still i have issues. i think its a horrid design and who ever designed it that way should be shot. funny thing is i also have a 2000 grand prix and that car NEVER has this issue. i have to drive the bonneville for a couple of weeks to make things right again with the climate control. its not broken because it will eventually work properly again, but in the meantime inconsistant heat.

this spring i also have to fix the drivers side power window. i think the cables are bad? how involved is that repair?

Your climate control issue sounds like the airmix actuator; repair/replacement is fairly well documented on the forum.

I've never had a wiper switch fail, so never changed, but I believe you do need to tear down the column to get to it. The other possibility is that it's a wire or connector issue at by the motor or the controller.

I'm not familiar with the power window setup. If it's the scissor arm type then most likely the issue is bad brushes in the motor or a bad switch.

Piece of cake. Pop the panel off and you're there. What "cables?" It's gear drive.
462 cubic inches of REAL Pontiac power.

i assumed they were cables that drive the window. i guess im wrong. i had a 97 grand prix GTP and the power window had an issue. it was cable driven and i assume they were the same. when you push the switch you can hear the motor hum as if its is trying to run but the windows doesnt move.
