volt meter bouncing

Post by Night Crawler »

Just noticed my volt meter needle bouncing. Plugged in the digital meter and it's bouncing between 13.9 and 14.4 volts. Does this mean the alternator is going?

Check all leads and make sure they are tight, particularly the positive on the battery.

You could also get her tested at an Autozone or Advance.

On the way home, the needle stayed put.

This.

When my voltmeter isn't rock-steady, it means one of my battery terminals has loosened (on my car, anyway). I'd check that first, it's cheap & easy.

It's still well in the safe zone. Is it just bouncing around quickly, or moving with throttle?
