Post by Franksdad »

Website is claiming 30 HP in thirty minutes? anyone have any experience with these?

Also if they're claiming it takes 30 minutes to install that means its an all day thing for someone like me, anyone have any experience on the install?

if this turns out to be a load of crap what would you guys suggest my next mod be?

just did o2 sensor oil level pressure and reduced 180 thermostate

The HV3 inserts do work, there are a few people on here that have run them in the past.

However, they do come at a price. Depending on your setup, some people have reported that they lose a bit of low end torque with the HV3. It basically moves the power band up, so you have to rev higher to get the higher power. Typically from what I understand, the HV3 is much better for a cammed motor or one with rockers. If it were me, I'd probably do a 2.5" downpipe, port the manifolds, get a FWI, and then throw a set of ZZP ER ratio rockers at it, then a tune. Not a canned tune, but go to a shop and get a dyno/street tune done. That should wake the car up a ton, and will definitely make you happy.

I'll let some of the members who've used the HV3 without other supporting mods chime in, but that's just my opinion. Once I have the cash flow, that's what I plan to do with the LeSabre (exhaust then rockers).

It's not gaining 30HP. It's getting 30HP back that the car lost in the upper RPM band.

You aren't going to go from 200 -> 230, when you get in the upper RPM band, your car drops a lot of HP and this helps bring it back to roughly the same as the lower RPM HP.

I'm running an HV3 in my Monte. That and the ER Rockers helped with my full powerband.

HV3s are noticeable even on a pretty stock motor. But black sheep is right. It basically flattens out the end of your powerband instead of having it drop off. The torque loss is very minimal, the HV2 was a lot more noticeable.

It will take someone who has no clue what they're doing no more than an hour to install an HV3. It just goes under your upper intake manifold.

That 30 hp they advertise is right at 6000 rpm which IIRC is past the stock shift point. Like everyone else said, it would just move the powerband higher up in the rpm range.

If you plan on doing more modding to the car especially if your planning on going with ER rockers or a ported exhaust manifold/plog, then go for it. As far as power goes this is pretty easy and cheap. I can't say whether or not I'd recommend it for something you drive everyday though as I have no experience with it.

It's a pretty easy install, it only requires removing the upper intake manifold (which also involves removing the fuel rail and anything else that's in the way). If you haven't replaced your lower intake manifolds yet, this would be the best time to do that too.

I believe it's 5500 RPM, which on the stock valve train you are safe to 5900, so it's really not much.

edit: sorry thought you were saying the 30 gain was at 6000

Either way though, he won't touch past 5500 unless he gets a tune
