I've never had a failure quite like this before. I had kept a keen eye on things, up until recent weeks when I trusted everything was fine. Today I check the level knowing im due for a change, and to my surprise I find this. Even though the UIM is newer than the car, ill be replacing it as well.
Is your coolant low? Did you have the aftermarket sleeved plenum? Could be possible its just moisture build up. I get this every once in a while on my car but I know the UIM/LIM is fine.
I agree, it just indicates a buildup of moisture/water, which, yes, could be what you think it is, but it could also be normal buildup that would happen if the normal moisture never boils out, because the car never comes up to temp (short tripping is the biggest offender).

My coolant overflow bottle is empty. It was flushed a month ago.
Ok, the oil doesnt look milkshake-y and I still have coolant in the radiator. Im starting to wonder if Ive overreacted a bit and that is just external moisture.
Well, empty overflow is a symptom that shouldnt be ignored. You may be up for another round, but refill and poke around first.

Ok so I kinda panicked thinking I had the milkshake nightmare which was NOT the case. But my overflow was still empty after only a month, and the new-ish looking gaskets still had a failure. Molding stamp on the UIM was from 2008, so thats probably around when it was last done, and it still looks good with no warping so im ok there.
So yea the junk on that cap was weather related, but not regretting getting this out of the way.
Engine looks pretty good. It'll be well worth your piece of mind having it done. Did you order the aftermarket sleeved plenum? I would just so you never have to worry about it again. That's what I did.
