hood treatments...

Post by Ghosthawk »

How about a thread for all you folks that have modified the hood on your Bonneville. It doesnt matter if its vents, scoops, or what have you. Functional or fake, either way, post up your pics here or links to threads where you did your mods.

I guess I've never been a fan of a clean, slick hood, especially on a car that has spoilers and other sporty looking goodies. I dig subtle just fine, but I'd like to see what many of you have done to help feed my brain some ideas before make a final decision on what to do with my car. I know I want to add something up there, even if its a simple pair of vents/louvers.

Thanks in advance guys, and looking forward to seeing what shows up!

Not a great photoshop, and not sure on the scale/size, but I like the overall look. But I do wonder if the louvers would look better...or maybe the old Z/28 reverse blister scoop

Not a fan of the PS'd hood scoops. They're very 80's...

Thanks, I enjoy it. The seats are showing a little wear, but not as bad as some. I am hoping to get them recovered someday.

But they came from a 90's Camaro! LOL

Given the fact that one of my fave cars of all time is the 79-81 Trans Am, scoops, blisters, and vents are all goodies to me. :beerchug:

I picked these up on eBay...

I think once they are match painted theyre going to look nice. I like the low profile and subtle statement.

Re: hood treatments...

Hood blisters came today and already there is a problem (I blame my lack of adequate research)...the support pads on the bottom of the scoops are nearly a quarter-inch lower than the outer rim, so they wont be a flush fit unless I either cut the pads off or cut holes in the hood.
I placed them on the hood for scale and my previous photoshop image is actually pretty close. They are a touch bigger than I expected but I think once they're painted to match the look will be very similar to the chop. They are a bit longer than I estimated but I think that will lend a bit of WS6 style while keeping a low profile.

Of course all of that info is moot based on what I do next. I could sell the scoops back on eBay and find something with a more simplistic install process. If I proceed with the cutting then there is no turning back. Gonna have to ponder on this a bit.
