How about the new '14 SS?
Seen these videos posted my GM High Tech Performance Magazine on my FB news feed and had to share them. The sound of the SS passing the camera at 163 MPH is amazing... Of course this is closed course and I am pretty sure Hennessey tuned it a bit.

Re: How about the new '14 SS?
I love my G8, and I do like the styling over the SS, but I do miss having some of the nice stuff that comes with the SS - nav, HUD, etc.
If I had the money, I'd take one either in white or blue.

I'm up to about 800 VIN#'s for SS's. I'll probably update again tomorrow. So far PBM is nearly 60% of all cars.

This one was definitely supercharged, it's hard to miss the whine. It sounds sick from the stationary cameras!

I'll take a G8 GXP over the SS. That might change when they offer it with Magnetic Suspension and a manual...

The G8 definitely looks better from the outside, but I love the interior on the SS. Plus, by the time I'm ready to buy a new car, my bank won't finance anything as old as the G8 :(

I really like the SS. The styling isn't very bold and aggressive, but I actually like it. Its a car someone would expect to be an everyday commuter, until you drop the pedal
Dont think the thought of getting one hasnt crossed my mind, I might be able to afford one after my upcoming promotion, I think they look really good in black with the chrome trim, add some tinted windows. Not the best financial idea though so wont happen

Re: How about the new '14 SS?
Didn't expect this to chalk up so many replies, haha. Nonetheless, I really like the new SS and it was limited at 163 or 165, something like that; It had plenty more MPH left. I can see where the styling is preferred on the G8 vs the SS because the G8 actually had the aesthetics of a sports car where the SS is sort of plain. Although, that makes it a better candidate for a sleeper

Re: How about the new '14 SS?
I've liked ALL the big Caddy concepts over the years, this included.
I like the SS, I like the Caprice, I like the G8, I like the GTO, I like... Well, lets just say, I like pretty much anything Holden sources with a V8 in it.
My only issue with the SS, and one can safely argue for or against this point, is the price. I have a hard time justifying nearly $50k for a Chevy that isn't a Corvette or a fully dolled up pickup truck or Suburban. Especially when the last G8, was pushing $40k new. Yes, I get that the SS is a newer version of the platform (VF vs. VE), has more options and nice interior digs, but that doesn't equate to $10k or additions to ME.
My point being, if I'm paying upwords of $50k for a high performance GM sedan, I'm going to the Cadillac dealership and doing it right...

Re: How about the new '14 SS?
I hear you on that point. $50k on any vehicle is a lot and to spend it on a sedan makes it seem less practical. It should at least start in the $30k range... most vehicles today are outrageously priced. It seems more practical to just wait 5-10 years, buy one then, and at a fraction of the new cost.CMNTMXR57 wrote:I've liked ALL the big Caddy concepts over the years, this included.

The pic of the SS looks exactly like the saturn in your sig. I actually thought you posted it for comparison. Waht a boring, bloated, overpriced waste of time.92BonneSE wrote:I really like the SS. Re: How about the new '14 SS?
Went and looked at the SS at a local dealer (Gilleland in St. Cloud MN) and I like it. They fixed a lot of my complaints about the G8 seems like, and upgraded the quality by a lot. Yes it's a lot of money, but I know it's a great car. I also like that it will likely have Magnetic Suspension and a manual. From what I've heard.
That picture makes it look really misshapen and bloated, weird angles and light affects.
Better picture of the SS:

My favorite view of the car:

Honestly, I'll keep my G8, but the SS would be a great car too.

G8 > SS. At least the G8 has a character of its own.
I hate saying this, but I'd probably buy the equivalent SRT8 vs one of these.

Sure it's not as aggressive as the G8, but I care more about the substance and what's underneath. I also couldn't care less about the badge it wears, whether Chevy or Pontiac. It's a Holden and for $45k you are getting quite a bit of car.
