Front window will not roll down!

Post by samples08 »

Problem: You notice that the passenger front window, and both rear windows don’t work, along with the door locks.
Solution: Whether you know it now or not, you have some water leaks, allowing water to get under your carpet, and its corroding the wiring. Thankfully, this is a rather simple fix if you have any electronic/soldering knowledge.
The windows and door locks data runs on a serial bus line that goes from each door module to each other. There is a splice pack under the driver seat that connects these wires. It gets wet and corrodes.
1. Remove the driver seat bolts with a T47 Torx bit. You’ll need to remove those plastic covers. Two bolts in front, two in the back. Disconnect the wiring and remove from the car.
2. Lift up the carpet and notice standing water, or signs of previous water.
3. There is some wiring that runs directly under the driver seat. Remove the wire loom from that 1ft section. Carefully cut away the wire wrap from the wires to expose the wires.
4. You’ll see 4 tan wires that look like they have black duct tape wrapped around them, cut away this wrap as well. You should find a splice pack that looks like this (complete with corrosion): http://i675.photobucket.com/albums/vv11 ... G_7787.jpg
5. Cut out the splice pack and save it to show your friends.
6. Cut back the 4 tan wires until it is fresh and clean. Black wiring is not good, cut back as much as necessary, it could be wicked up into that wire a few inches, or a few feet, depending on how long the problem has existed.
7. Solder a new wire in its place. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Any gauge wire will work as long as it’s somewhat similar to the existing wire. All you are doing is reconnecting the 4 door modules so they can communicate again. Be sure to use heat shrink tubing to keep the water out. http://i675.photobucket.com/albums/vv11 ... G_7788.jpg
8. Rewrap the area with wire wrap (electrical tape), and put the wire loom back on
9. Reinstall the seat.
10. FIX YOUR LEAKS! Check the links in the “Water leaks” section of this document.Estimated Cost: FREE, just some simple supplies and time
I checked this and mine are not corroded but yet I don't have any functionality out of my driver's side window and my car does not recognize that A SINGLE DOOR has opened at night my dome lights will not come on when a door is open but I have checked and the dome lights do function properly :dontknow: I just don't understand what has gone wrong! :banghead:

Could it be a busted BCM? I don't know if that happens or if that could contribute to the problem. But just throwing that one out there.

Minor update went to lock things up and noticed nothing at all but the gas door locked so it can't be the BCM because before it got reprogramed by GM it acted as it was dead such as my gas door lock did not work my fog lights didn't work, so I'm going to go ahead and rule out any Body Control Module issues!

I'd say you have a broken orange power wire in the accordion tube where the door hinges are.

As that post was in the Gearhead section, I don't think he can see it. I hope Matt doesn't mind, but I took the pictures that he posted in that thread to show here.

just checked that and the drivers door module both are getting about 11.48 volts so that's out what else could be causing this, because now ive checked it again and NONE (excluding sunroof) are working!

Just because it has volts, doesn't mean it has enough amps to move the window. Disconnect the large 4-wire connector from the DDM and jump the terminals. Black to brown and orange to blue. This should move the window up or down. Then try Black to blue and Orange to brown, this should move the window the other way. After you confirm the window is working, you know you have a module or other wiring problem. Since you said all windows are not working now, I'd guess master window switch.

This was successfully done! for the reference (black to blue and orange to brown is down, and black to brown and orange to blue is up.) so moving on is there a way to test the master switch or to test the door module so I can zero in on my problem?

The other windows function from their own switches on their own doors, but the master switch on the drivers door will not roll any of them down? Bad master window switch.

Definitely sounds like a bad master switch. Had a similar problem with a previous car that I owned. Same problems -- > and it was the Master switch.

I agree that the master switch is the most likely suspect. If the DDM was bad, the windows would not work from their individual switches, as the DDM is the hub of the system.

you guys may have missed my updates but I have stated that now none of the other windows will work and neither will the doors lock or the car recognize ANY DOOR has opened! the key fob still makes the horn honk lights flash and gas door lock, lock, and trunk pop and at night the unlock button will still turn on the interior lights but the car does not recognize a door gets opened!
