A Subaru guy about to acquire a step-car

Post by Tanto »

Hi, all! My name is Will, and I'm a Subaru guy. I'm here because my girlfriend (soon to be fiance', shhhhh...) has a 2005 Bonnie that she loves, but some recent mechanical issues has her worried that she'll have to give it up soon. She's had Pontiacs almost her entire adult life (previously owning a Grand Am), and she can't see herself driving anything else. So I'm here to learn as much as I can about her car to keep it on the road, reliably and safely, for as long as I can. Just from checking the common issues thread, I can check one off the list (fuel gauge).

I hope that through learning more about it that I'll come to love this step-car as my own.

Here are my cars.

Granny, my 2000 Subaru Legacy GT daily driver:

Zoom-zoom, my 1982 Toyota Celica Supra autocross car:

And here's the Tank, my SO's 2005 Pontiac Bonneville SE. Because it's only a step-car right now, I don't have a good picture of it. Here's me restoring the headlights.

Welcome!!! Hope we can keep it running for you and her for a long time!

Glad to see you found the common problems list. I'd definitely take a look at the upper plenum and the lower intake gaskets unless you know they've been replaced with the revised parts we recommend.

Greetings, fellow autocrosser! I grew up with a 5M-GE powered 1985 Cressida as the family car, and also was in the presence of a 1983 Super Red MK2 Supra owned by a family friend. I love old RWD Toyotas :) If I ever do engage in a project car, I wouldn't mind trying my hand at a 1UZ-FE V8/5-speed manual Cressida. A few guys have done it in Australia. There is also another member here, local to me who has a minty white 1982 Celica GT-S with a 22R that's been seriously hopped up and has seen tons of track time. Bad GXP is his username.

It's a pretty good bunch of guys here, if you need parts, be sure to get in touch with Andrew (harofreak00) - he's just one state over in MN.

Thanks everyone! I'd love to do a 1UZ swap into that Supra. It's only putting 120whp down right now. <.< >.>

Welcome! You're definately in the right place. How many miles are on the car? Is the '05 a series III? I don't recall when GM made the switch.

Bonnevilles never got the Series 3.

BTW, congrats on the impending engagement!

Welcome Will!

Rest assured you're amongst a good group of of knowledgeable and experienced people that are very familiar with all sorts of Bonnevilles. I too hope that your girlfriend is able to keep that '05 SE they're usually pretty reliable cars.

Btw, love that '82 Celica Supra. I have the smaller sister to it, a 1982 Celica GTS with the factory Supra interior, wheels and fender flares. That RA64 body style is still considered one of the best body styles ever, even up to today. :)
