HELP PLEASE supercharger grind

Post by phatdaddymackc »

So I think my supercharger is kicking the bucket slowely but surely. So when I drive everything is fine until I hit the gas enough to kick in the supercharger. First thing that happens is it jerks a bit which some have said is the transmission but I dont know how that could be when it shifts fine any other time. Now if I slowely press the gas I can get it over the 0 hump and further no jerk. So makes me think its the pulley not engaging or something. Well now I had a friend ride in the passenger seat the other day and he comments that it sounded like something was grinding. He mentioned it was almost like a cv axle going bad or something but we noticed it only kicks in as the boost gauge shows 0 and when its under it goes away. I need any and all advice that I can get, like does this sound salvageable and if not what I can do?

There is no engagement for the supercharger, it is belt driven off the crankshaft so if the engine is running, the supercharger is turning.

Not sure about the grinding, maybe take a good video and it would give us a better idea. As for the jerking it sounds either transmission related or a bad engine / transmission mount.

Is the car stock or have you changed pullies? do you have the stock intake or did you put a K&N/Other cone filter or anything on it?

X2, take the SC belt off and see how the car runs then. it will feel slow but it will take the blower our of the equiasion.. the grinding sound, is it mostly when the car is idling? most likly you are hearing the SC coupler going bad... If the bearing were gonig bad then you would hear it all the time, not just when in boost. not much to worry about, wont cause the blower to not work just annoying. there are many how to's to fix it and most places like ZZP, intense and other sell replacment couplers. what you are feeling is most not caused by the SC but more likely due to it making boost..Most likely bad/dirty MAF, Bad Missfire, Bad O2, something along thoes lines. search in the 2000-05 non GXP section for key words like "Bucking" or "Studdering". should find others that had the same issue and alot of guys are good here to post what they did to fix it.

Get some MAF cleaner from the parts store and start by cleaning it.. just a couple little squirts, dont wipe or touch the wires in the sensor.

No mods at all stock everything and I dont hear anything on driver side except for what sounds like the pulley squeaking. But my passenger said he hears like a grinding during boost. I know that all my mounts are gone so someone said something about that. I am just trying to figure out all the different things that it could be. I will try taking off the belt this weekend and see what it does. I do know this I am only getting like 250 miles to the tank which shouldnt be.

This would have helped me so many times!!!!! Every time I have had my belt off i spend at least 20 min trying to figure out how it goes back on you would think I would remember to look at the belt first. :banghead:

the belt pulleys go bad so pull the belts and check them.
