Yeah, the biggest upgrade to be made is getting away from FWD. That is literally the single biggest problem with these cars and any other American "muscle-", "Sport-" cars, or whatever the ad copy calls them. You can have all the power in the world and it still wont make it a proper driving car. Look at my bonneville. I can smoke my tires on the freeway but I still cant really call it a fun car.

It would be a lot easier just to buy this 1989 6000 STE AWD. I think it is the last AWD sedan Pontiac ever made. (This carried over until 1990 as a 6000 SE)

Wow, that thing should be in a museum. Its like a time machine that only goes to the late 80s.

Just as an added FYI, the g6 f40 isn't the be all end all manual transmission to have. It takes a lot of special parts to make it work and its an odd duck anyways since gm only used it for a year or two. The getrag 5 speeds from the fieros/Berettas/cavaliers and some others are easier to find and adapt onto a 3800
Edit: or ls4

The F40 is made by Getrag. Its got decent ratios and handles a fair amount of power. Beats an auto in a fiero, but a Bonerpile isnt really what I think of when I want a really connected driving experience.

I heart 6000 STE's in AWD trim. That one in the picture has been up for sale around 3 times now and for an enormous amount.

Re: Call Me Crazy--Just For Fun... (LS4 AWD?)
I have an LS4 powered vehicle. It's nice especially for a wrong wheel driven vehicle, considering other choices of wrong wheel driven appliances out there (and I do like the looks of the car), but I have to say that is far from "intoxicating". It scoots for sure. But it's not all that much quicker or "torque'ier" than the N* equipped GXP.Ghosthawk wrote:I realize this is a major old thread and I'm knocking dust for no more reason than to comment! LOL
BUT...I have to sympathize with anyone (me included) who has fallen under the spell of the LS4. I have driven both a Grand Prix GXP and a Monte SS and the sound plus the power is intoxicating. Sadly, neither car packs the sexy looks, inside or out, of the Bonneville. Every time I look under the hood I know full well the potential of the L36. I have seen them built and turbo'ed, and I've seen modded L67s and both engines can easily become tire-frying monster killers. However I recall reading where one of the chief engineers at Audi said that there is nothing more compelling than the sound of a naturally aspirated V-8, and I agree with him completely.
The roomy engine bay of the Bonneville almost seems to beg for the LS4 that has been shoe-horned into the Grand Prix, and the sound, torque and power would transform the car from sexy highway cruiser to some American version of a Jaguar XJ...the ever-potent iron fist inside the velvet glove (or nice tan leather! LOL)
Either way, had I the money and the means, value be cast to the wind, the end result would be one of those car GM should have built and didn't for whatever bean-counting reason.
I actually drag raced a Grand Prix GXP when I had my Bonneville, and he inched away from me. That was about it.

Yeah, I have a couple acquaintances from HS that had a GP GXP and a Monte SS. Everyone raved about that GP, how fast it was, etc. My G8 will blow them out of the water, in all areas of performance.
Bye Bye:
