Both rear doors on my car rattle when going over a good sized bump / pothole, drivers side is louder than the pass. though - if I push on the door from the outside when it's closed it has some play in it but when I'm driving down the road I hear no air leaks from the back of the car.
The sound is annoying the hell out of me and I'm sure it's a simple fix, anyone have any thoughts?

Re: Rear doors loose?
Sure its the actual doors themselves or not something in the rear suspension, like say the shocks?

I had a "rattle" in my steering column for months. Had the front struts and strut mounts replaced, no more "rattle" in the steering column. - BC

This was my thought as well. I believe I have a rear strut mount going out, and when I first heard it, I thought the door wasn't shut completely.MrJiggy716 wrote:Sure its the actual doors themselves or not something in the rear suspension, like say the shocks?

Re: Rear doors loose?
Yeah, strut/strut mount even the rear lateral links. Id get under there and inspect or have my mechanic check it out. Its possible its something in the doors is loose (have you ever had the panels off or damage to the doors/frame?) crazier things have happened, however its very unlikely. Both at the same time seems to point to a suspension issue.

Re: Rear doors loose?
Highly doubt it's the doors. MUCH more likely to be the shock mounts.

Re: Rear doors loose?
Like I said before, if the doors are shut and I push on the rear drivers door it has about 1/4" of play - not quite as much on the passengers rear door but neither of the front doors have much play at all.
I did the rear shocks with Monroes - mounts as well. I have ball joints, front tie rods & front/rear sway bar links ready to be put on just lacking the motivation. It really does sound like the door - I may be wrong though.

Re: Rear doors loose?
You can always open the door and look at the hinges and try to move the door up and down to see if there is play in the hinge pins. And check the back edge against the quarter panel to make sure they are even. You should be able to adjust the latch hold on the quarter panel if needed. But rear doors are not used a lot so a hinge problem is not likely.
