Hello All!

We have a 1996 Bonneville SE that is just getting L36 the motor broken in at 210,000 miles.
Runs pretty well & am hoping to be able to drive it for another 100,000 miles. (have run Mobil 1
oil since we purchased car with 43,000 on it)
(40psi in tires)
I have a question regarding the final transaxle final gear ratio.

Driving our car, during daytime highway with cruise, at approx 1,600rpm we are getting 33 - 35 mpg.
Actual speedometer reading is about 52-54 mph.
I want to find out of there are any factory or after market final gear drive sets available, so we can run at 65 mph
with the same rpm range?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks very much!

Hiya! Welcome to Pontiac Bonneville Club. The greatest forum (IMPO) online!!!

Concerning the gear ratio, IMO you'd be wasting your money. The money you theoretically might save (due to wind resistance and tire friction, I don't know if you will) would take a long time to make up for the money you'd spend converting the gear ratio. IMO, just basic maintenance is the best way to increase gas mileage, and it sounds like you're doing a good job. That gas mileage is what a good running L36 should do, and for a big V6 like ours, that's *dang* impressive.

...but others might have a different opinion. Try posting in the 1992-1999 forum, and you might get a better answer :)

Again, welcome!!
