Engine Removal

Post by Nitro Nick »

My 1999 Bonneville had a rod bearing fail about 2 years ago. This last spring I just popped a new bearing on the crank and have just kind of run it around the neighborhood. Now that i have saved some money I am trying to remove the engine and perform a full engine rebuild. Four weeks later I still haven't been able to get the engine out. :dontknow:

Does anyone know where the bolts are and how to access them to remove them. Any pictures or diagrams would be GREAT! I have been able to remove the four bolts from the bell housing. The engine is the 3800 V-6 Series 2. Thanks!

I'm not sure of every one, but there's a backwards bolt in the bellhousing that has to be removed from the passengers side with a longgggg extension.

Ditto on the long extension from the passenger side. I used 3 or 4 extensions in tandem, and then went 'fishing' for that bolt. If i remember correctly it was a 18mm. Have a breaker bar ready too. All other bolts should be accessible from the driver side.

Disconnect the PS pump with hoses from the accessories and tie it back to the firewall area to get some more working room and clear access for your socket extension contraption.

Someone posted a photo of the location awhile back if you need to see it.

Also unbolt the ac compressor front the engine. Don't forget to unbolt the flywheel from the torque convertor. You can get one bolt at a time through the access cover by the starter.
