Ported LIM, Gen V, or not at all

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

Ported LIM, Gen V, or not at all

Post by 731Loadmaster »

Hey Guys,

I'm about to do the LIM gaskets and am wondering if I should go ahead and get a ported LIM from ZZP. It would cost me about $300 before core rebate.

I just don't know if it would be worth the hassle right now. I have almost all the necessary mods for a 3.4 pulley, and I found a Gen V for $500 shipped. In a predicament lately.

Asking for advice.

Honestly, you can port yours or find someone near you to help port it likely for cheaper. My friend that helped me with my LIM gaskets ported mine. It didn't take him too long, and he just cleaned up the rough castings in the ports. It made a world of difference in my car being N/A, but I've heard the L67 LIM's were cast much better, so there shouldn't be too much to do on yours.

I agree, see if anyone in the area will port yours. ZZP's LIM isn't worth the money I've heard.

It's not terribly difficult to do this yourself; a corded dremel and several cone and round grinding stones are all you need. Maybe $70 and 8 hours. Leaves money for that Gen V

I have several L67 lower intake manifolds here in central MN along with a good machine shop that offers small town pricing (labor-wise) that would allow you to save at least $100 and not have to hassle with paying a core charge up front.

I bought a dremel at a pawn shop for $10, and it came with all the stuff I needed to clean up the castings and gasket-match the ports. Way better than ZZP's pricing...
