2000 Buick PA - fuel gauge needle spun all the way around?

Post by keegan »

Hey guys. Weird question here. Last year the wife had an issue with some bad gas, cold weather, and car wouldn't fire. She cranked until the battery died (not continuously)! It warmed up the next day and I went up and jumped it and it's been fine since. The only odd thing is the fuel gauge needle looks like it rotated all the way (clockwise) around and it now sits underneath the little support that it would normally rest on if the car was shut off. Keep in mind, it has been this way for 2 years but I am giving the car to my dad and want to fix it. The digital read out works fine still. Here is a pic. Any guesses?

Common issue. My grandpa fixed his by drilling a small hole and using an allen key to pry it back over the peg.

What are you trying to say here?? LOL

I actually did think of that, but didn't know if the gauge would work afterwards, and didn't want to ghetto drill a hole thru it if it wasn't going to.

Hahaha, it was something his mechanic showed him and did once, then he did it himself for the other gauge (temp?). Gauge works fine, the motors know where the needle is.

Some have used magnets. One person had small magnets and kept adding magnets till the field was strong enough to pull the needle above the post and jump it to the other side or drag it around.

Good luck.
