stock performance

Post by jet020 »

For any of you performance Bonneville owners, just wondering, which style of Bonneville is actually quicker on the dead start and in a quartermile? The 2000-03 stock Bonneville SSEI or the 04-05 stock Bonneville GXP. The only thing I know is that the Gxp appears to have a higher listed horsepower rating compared to the SSEI and of course obviousily the GXP is sporting the 8 cylinder block as compared to the SSEI 6 cylinder block. Any info would be appreciated

SSEi is better 0-60 and quarter mile, especially with a few basic mods. GXP starts to pull away after a little bit. Stock-for-stock, the GXP is probably a bit quicker overall, but the SSEi is very cheap and easy to get much faster, with better mileage. The Northstar's downfall is that it has little bottom-end torque, versus the 3800 S/C which has a lot of torque.

Thanks so much for your quick reply. Just recently purchased a 2002 SSEI and although I like the GXP Bonneys I prefer the 2000-2003 body style more although there isnt much of a difference actually.

IMHO, you're in much better shape with the SSEi. Good luck with it.

by the way, what shade of blue is your Bonneville? I don't believe I have ever come across that color. Very nice indeed!

Depending on the GM literature you read, it's either called Steel Blue Metallic or Silver Steel Gray Metallic. It was an 03-05 color, so 03 was the only year it was available on the SSEi. It's less common, but I have run across more than a few in this shade. It was also on a few other GM vehicles of the era. My neighbors have an 01-ish PA in it.
