ZZP PCM?

Looking at ordering a ZZP PCM this friday. Few reviews said they are junk.. 90% of them said they were overly happy with them. In my 97 GTP, would my HUD and mileage/fuel computer still work correctly? Also, it says it makes shifts firmer, and revs up to 6,250rpm. Right now it revs to 56xx. Think this is a good buy for my vehicle? Signing up for some circuit-style racing soon and getting everything ready.

if you plan to mod further , save the money and buy a tuner. If not get the ZZP Pcm. I am running on in my bonneville right now and I am pleased with it.

I have a ZZP Tune on my bonnie, no complaints. I have a tuner and i still think you should start with a good base line tune to tweek the stupid stuff they have experience tweeking.

I say get it.

Why so many votes for 'don't get it?' haha. And noone around here tunes anymore :( I think this will be my last mod honestly.. I've done everything else I wanna get involved with, because this is also my daily driver. Strut tower brace and some suspension stuff for the track will be all I'm planning on later. Soooo get it?

What are benefits of intense vs ZZP?

same basic thing from both companies, just a different guy tuning it. they make simmilar adjustments.

With the intense.. it doesn't describe all of what it really does for me.. and when I'm not exactly sure which one to choose..

And does the intense do the skip-shifts like the ZPP? (4-2 and 3-1)

they both should offer the same basic tweeks... might be slight difference in the tune for engine performance or when to shift rpms ect... but you should get simmilar adjustments in either one. I think you will be happy either way.

I have a 180 t stat in my car and the fans now come on at 180, and they stay on for a bit after the car is off to keep things cool. I haven't seen more than 182 degrees on my scangauge. It also got rid of the CEL for the rear O2 sensor because of the downpipe. They get rid of the speed limiter and some of the torque management (like if you do a burnout with tc off and it cuts the rpms short anyway). And the shifting is much more firm, I have a shift kit too but it didn't really make too much of a difference until I got the PCM. My car will chirp second gear on WOT pulls now. And it also has the skip shifts as well. Overall it made my car perform much better with the mods I have done, and I would recommend it to anyone looking to improve their car. Also it seems that Intense also has better customer service than ZZP. Not that they are terrible or anything but the people at Intense answered all my questions right away.

I'm not sure about L67 PCMs but when I got a basic PCM from Intense racing for my Bonneville when it was still a wee L36 it pretty much just changed my fans for my 180* stat, removed speed limiter, removed a lot of torque management from transmission settings, quickened the shift times, and I think removed a few DTC things that go off with hi-flow cats and such. I don't recall much else getting changed but I could be wrong. It's been a while since I did my topswap and got a custom tune.

Are you sure your PCM isn't already tweaked with? I'm pretty sure your GTP should shift at like 5300 RPMs stock and unless you do some valvetrain upgrades you shouldn't wind it past 6k RPMs. You REALLY should have someone do a custom tune because then they can safely mess with your timing and tweak transmission settings to your liking. Try local grand prix clubs.

I'm also wondering if it hasn't been messed with. It does shift about 5256rpm if I leave it in drive, but if I manually shift, I can push it all the way to redline. And that's also what I'm worried about.. The pcm says that the new shift point will be 6k rpm.. So will installing this pcm hurt my motor and push it beyond its limits? From your reply, it sounds like a bad idea.

i vote get neither. ZZP PCM isnt worth the money, and Intense tunes too aggressively for a reliable DD. their tunes have chipped many a piston

Thinking I don't wanna risk it. When I can shift it myself and get the results that I have, I don't know if a tuned pcm would 'dumb it down' haha. Would help with shifts but.. don't think I'm goina end up doing it.
