Sseiman,

Yes lower number. If memory serves they only made like 1800 or so G8 Gxps. Hold on to it. Probably wont see them depreciate much.

My problem is the "worlds best" sillyness and Dow talking andrews Gxp. The north star is literally the worst part of the on bonneville gxp and I doubt very many people would dispute that. You go right ahead and show us a north star gxp with 350hp on a tune and I'll eat my shoe. Line up against me or Andrew any day.

As for my critique of your car, when you literally claim to have the "worlds best" of something, you should expect a little critisism.

First off. It is my opinion. Go back and read my original post. Im sure the words "I'll let you decide" were in there. Once again my opinion.

As far as Andrews ride. In no way was I down talking his car. Im simply saying once you took the northstar out of it it was no longer a GXP. I dont really think you can argue with that. Frankly of you wanted a high horse power sedan. Buy a G8. Im still dont understand the logic in putting a L67 in a GXP. To each their own.
And now you want to race? You do realize this is a front wheel drive sedan? I mean do you honestly think you are going to go out and smoke some vettes and mustangs with your new found 350 hps? Good luck with that. Let me know how that turns out. Now who is talking sillyness?

Yeah a Northstar has its issue, like most engines. I wouldn't call it the worst part of the car and certainly not remove it. I can think of many other issue worse than the engine considering most on this site have gotten well over 100k miles out of theirs.

Steering, crap brakes, oil lines, all come to mind.

Zero issue with critisism. I asked for feedback and I got it some good some bad. If I don't agree with someone's build does it make sense for you now to hate my car and "attitude"?

By association then, taking an 88 Trans Am GTA and putting a 383 stroker in it makes it no longer a Trans Am, and putting a big block in something it never came in back in the day also takes away its name? I don't see Andrew's car as anything different than what people did years ago in terms of taking it and making it his own. A name is a name whichever motor it has or came with. :beerchug:

Well that escalated quickly!

Bonneville's are great cars fwiw, but arguing the "greatness" of a corporate platform, wrong wheel driven, nose heavy, cookie cutter sedan that most forgot about (or passed on), when new, is flat out silly.

I'm not trying to be mean or down talking anyone here, but I should note that people modify 3800s well into the 400WHP range and DO spank Vettes, Mustangs and other cars.

An intercooled and cammed setup like Andrew's or Randy's makes stupid power... And yes, they are both FWD sedans which I bet surprise a lot of people on the road... And neither of them even have turbos which on a 3800 get straight silly.

As was said many times on here, if you want a car to enjoy out of the box then the GXP Bonneville is a wonderful creation. It sounds awesome and looks great and has many little details that the normal 2000+s didn't have. Just like there is no denying that, there is no denying that the Northstar is where the GXP falls short. That's where 90% of the GXP's problems stem from. To give you an idea of what I mean, you said that people have taken Northstars past like 100k miles like if it were a big deal. Well for a 3800 a big deal is past 300k miles. And while every motor has its problems, the Northstar's problems are made worse by the fact that the motor is in a car not designed for it. Thus when something goes wrong, stuff is hard to get to and usually means that a lot of things have to be taken apart. The average person doesn't have the know-how or time to do stuff like that which equates to $$$$$$ at the shops. I'm sure Lane can tell you all about that.

Traditionally no... But to be blunt, a Northstar is almost as much a blasphemy in a Bonneville as that 383 is in a GN, since for a long time now the 3800 was the heart and soul of the Bonneville.

However, in terms of these Bonnevilles... At the end of the day motors are motors and no one really cares about what you put in it because it's gonna be just another Bonneville to the majority of the public.

What amazes me is how many people diss these cars they bitch and say they wont be worth anything. But yet they are still on here long after they sold them.

Look. If you think these cars wont be worth anything 10 years from now you are high! Simple law of supply and demand. Not many made there will be a market for these. How many of you sold cars in their youth and now look what they go for!

I bought my Iroc in 94 at the age of 19 for $7800. It has now appraised for over 18k. And they made thousands of these for 5 years. So you have a two year production of roughly 6k cars and noone here thinks they wont be worth something in 5-10 years?

Wow. Thought this site was for those passionate about Bonnevilles. Maybe i need to go over to another forum where folks take their cars seriously instead of dog on them. Jmho

Sorry dude, but you are wrong! Maybe you are just too young but Bonneville started life with a v8 so the fact that a six ever was put in it was wrong.

Maybe the GXP made things right.

The reason many of us are still here is because these cars brought us together and we made some of the best friends we will ever meet in our lives. For me case in point would be Will, aka SSEiMan01.

Yes. I'm young. No, that has nothing to do with the fact that since 1987 the 3800 was the engine that the Bonneville had powering it, and subsequently many people have come to know, love, and relate it to the Bonneville.

A classic third gen IROC is a wonderful car with a V8 and it's proper wheels being a driven. A GXP is nothing but a FWD V8 grocery getter with some fancy seats and nice looking wheels.

No, we don't dog on these cars. We have been around them for so long and have had them apart so many times that we know all the good things AND the bad things about them. I know I love my Bonneville, and I know I'd love to have a mint GXP. But do they have the same rights to being called a classic like your IROC and other cars? I don't think so.

Again, I am going to disagree. Spend sometime watching and going to auctions. The exact words coming out of your mouth have been said for decades. People said corvairs, beetles, lincoln town cars, marauders, galaxies, Chevy 150 and 250s were never going to be worth anything and were junked These cars are now pulling 20, 30, 40 and up.

Look nothing against 3800. Great motor. Owned a regal with on got 217k out of it. Go ahead throw it in a vette. At the end of the day you have a mutt. Personally, I like pure breds. Guess I hold my tastes a bit higher.

Nice and clean GXP! Couldn't look much better, man I love the GXP rims for stock. I never thought I would buy a black car but I just did a few months ago. Its a love hate relationship...looks so good when its clean but gets dirty easily and easily shows imperfections

I'm still here because I appreciate the car for what it is... A comfortable, reliable, easy to maintain (V6's obviously), that you know you'll get your moneys worth out of.

But a collectors car it is not! Are there nice ones? You bet. Plus, I like to keep Will in check...

Re: World's Best GXP?

Post by 2003 SSEi »

worst thread title ever.

If its the worlds best GXP how many trophies have you acuqured from shows???....Also I have a SSEi that will walk away from a bolt on LS car,4.6 and 5.0 mustangs "most" of the 4, 6, and 8 cylinder cars out on the highway. It runs 12.80's with the stock cam.....should do high 11's with a set heads and the cam sitting in the garage.......

onto the GXP name, the GXP is anything Pontiac produced from the Performance Division. If you look at the G6 GXP it has the same motor as the GTP G6. The only "performance" thing the GXP got was the Brakes and the Suspension.....the Motor/Trans was not Performance oriented at all....I mean come on they put it in a Cadillac DTS....

Ahhh. This forum cracks me up! Everyone wants to badmouth me and now the topic. Lol. Yet I don't see anyone posting a better GXP. Put up or shut up as they say.

Worst topic ever....hilarious. Dont quit your day job. Assuming you have one.

This topic needs locked now.

Sure, the title was a little off the wall, but come on guys! Both parties here now are just being ridiculous and only causing unnecessary drama and talking crap. That is not needed on this forum! Sometimes I wish I was a mod still, this would be locked or cleaned up already...

Either say good things about the car for what it is or give constructive criticism, no name calling or trying to stir the pot.
