EGR repacement and testing

Post by spoiledred94 »

I have an SES light that clears with my scanner, but comes right back. I am getting QDM quad driver 1 error #640 and a QDM quad driver 4 error #670 as well. Those numbers cross reference to P1640 and P1670. And it appears that these driver modules (don't know and cant find much about what QDM module is) control and sense EGR function as part of their operation. I going to repalce the EGR tomorrow unless somebody has another better idea or at least a way to test the EGR valve itself.

Note if you pull the injectors to obserbe fuel delivery...make sure you leave the plugs in and disconnect the ign. Believe me

Have you tried cleaning the EGR Valve pintle yet? Remove the EGR valve and use carb & choke cleaner and a small stiff brush to scrub all the accumulated carbon off the pintle. Sometimes, that is all it takes to get things working well again.

I had the 640 error code before. I had attempted to clean the EGR and its pintle but didnt help. Try that first and try cleaning and reseating the connector to make sure its in. As a last resort, should you try replacing the part. As for my case, replacing the part worked in the end.

Hey, thank you. You two seem to know this problem. I actually went to pay for it before your posts. :dontknow: It'll be in in a couple hrs at Schucks. I know the guy at store well as I worked with him there. My point being is that I don't want to return it, ya know what I mean? He gives me a discount so I stay low maintenance. He basically echoed your thoughts sterdeus in that he said it'll end up needing replacement eventually.

Edit: Ya Know I'm gonna go clean it now. At least that way I'll know.

The new valve fixed the SES light. It was a bit of a moment in wonder as it refused to clear even with the scanners instance. Revved it up once to scratch my head and off it went. Thanks for taking the time , Kris

Well the next time I started up it was on and still is. I even retried clearing it with the scanner multiple times. I am wondering if anyone knows how long it takes the computer to clear the signal at the longest ?

Just an FYI - I can say that I had a spare EGR off of my 97 Blazer. It has the same foot print and the plug was the same so I tried it and it worked. The only real difference was that the socket for the plug was is a slightly different clock position.

it makes sense I guess. A lot of Chrysler based vehicles used to have a ballast resistor to drop the battery voltage down 6v. They burned out a lot and it was nice that the ballast resistors were the same for all of them because a lot of us took to carrying a spare for others.

Re: EGR repacement and testing PROBLEM SOLVED

Post by spoiledred94 »

Just for conclusion. I solved this problem by replacing a blown A/C fuse in hidden location.
