Exhaust Leak

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

Exhaust Leak

Post by Brae »

I have an exhaust leak on my 01' SSEi and it sounds horrible, kind of like a moped going down the street or a really weak Harley, I believe it's from the front of the exhaust, probably the manifold but i'm unsure. If anyone has had a similar problem please let me know!

Best way to isolate it is to use a piece of vacuum hose as a stethoscope and find where it's leaking from, either under the hood or under the car.

My guess would be the flex joint right behind the rear manifold.

That's my first guess. There's a donut gasket there that deteriorates.

I'm not aware of a video, it's pretty self-explanitory. Your dad probably has a mechanic's stethoscope in his shop too...

I think I have this problem as well. Does it sound similar to like a quiet chainsaw, or maybe like a buzzing whenever you accelerate? I've been wondering about that sound...

I ran a scanner on my car and it came up with an P0137 code. This is a Oxygen O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1, Sensor 2). I believe its being caused by an exhaust leak somewhere, mostly because of the buzzing sound I've been hearing when I accelerate. Anyone have this problem before? How do I test this?
