AC compressor

Post by shafa1121 »

Recently bought a 2000 SLE, naturally aspirated. The guy put the bypass pulley on since the compressor went out. I plan on doing the compressor/accumulator myself, but I don't feel comfortable discharging the AC system myself. I'm pretty sure the system will need to be flushed also. Is it better to do the the repairs first, then go in and get it all flushed out and recharged, or repair afterward and then go get it recharged? I've never messed with the AC system, so I'm not too sure in my abilities. Also, I don't know if it's easier if certain components are off. I'm doing the LIM and UIM with the Dorman kit, coolant elbow, valve cover gaskets. I have everything off, and also the alternator and coolant reservoir. So I guess I'm at a turning point and not sure which way to go. Any advice??

if the system has a bypass kit on it then there shouldnt be a charge in the AC.. you will definatly want to have the system flushed to clean any junk out of the lines. you will want a reciever dryer, orifice tube (i would suggest a variable one... gets colder) new compressor. and make sure they add the correct ammount of oil into the system to keep it lubricated.. I and a few others had to slightly overcharge 1-2lbs of 134a the system to get both driver and passanger side vents to blow cold. (low charge will blow hot on one side and cold on the other.) you can install everything and take it in to have the system flushed.. if you have a Air compressor i would remove the orifice tube and blow air in reverse to the system to make sure its clear (pushing junk away from the evaproator/condencer not into it), replace the items i listed above and replace the seals at any disconnected locations to make sure you have a closed sealed system to charge.

the AC system is not any different then anything else.. a buch of hoses conencted to mechanical parts and filled with a fluid.. much like the cooling system of the engine, just filled up a little different way. its not any more difficult then anything you are doing with the LIM gaskets. once its all hooked up the compressor wont come on without a charge so you don't have to worry about that kicking on if you have it filled professionally.

got my compressor on Amazon or Rock auto when mine shyt the bed.

hope this helps.

Mines blowing hot on driver side, cold on passenger and back seat 45 psi Freon checked actuators and all are moving how did you pump extra Freon in. Mine seems to stop and wont take any more.
