WCBF track results

Post by willwren »

A little update, Thursday afternoon was test/tune at Woodburn Dragstrip, Saturday was competition in the Miles Chevy Classic (10th annual, which fits nicely with the 5th annual WCBF). Everyone ran, including 2000CadillacSTS (Matt) in his Ford Pickup and Slayer636 (Joel) in his Stratus (remember his Regal GS got smacked by a truck). Also running was GXP_Vince (Vince) and his wife Tarah in their BMW (didn't bring the '95 L67 SLE).

I didn't get alot of exposure to the whole group that afternoon, as PontiacDad and I got stuck in the slicks lane. That was cool though, as we spent the whole afternoon duking it out. We both had nearly perfectly identical 60' times all afternoon, and were holding about .2 seconds apart on ET once I got my fueling dialed back down from where it was with the intercooler.

I believe there were a couple PB's on Thursday.

On to Saturday.

We had 4 time trials with the Portland and Seattle Grand Prix Clubs. They were in Lane 11 with 16 cars, we were in Lane 12 with 15 cars. Off the top of my head, those that didn't run (due to car issues or preference) were Hans, 2000SilverBullet........can't think of more. Both were having issues and chose not to run to save the car for the drive home. Tpulliam79 and driverjohn2005 both had to leave the night before for various reasons as well, and didn't run Saturday. John and Margaret chose not to run their 94 L27 as well. Vince and Caddymatt weren't able to run non-GM vehicles in that event.

Cars that ran:

Zilla (me driving) rrounds, PDXGTP (in SLEeper), VBCSpangler, Singscountry1967, PontiacDad, Randy from Idaho (2k on 20's), ALL THREE of myfirstbonnie's cars (megan in the 95, Petraman in the 89, Matt in the 2k), Bugsi, Echo_SSEi, SSEiMatt93.....who am I forgetting? Celin and Keven ran their twin red GTP's in the GP lane (although they were part of WCBF). I might be forgetting a couple. It was a long day.

Pdad led our lane to the start, but due to a timing circuit error, he ran a 50.44 at 258.58mph, and got shuffled to the back to re-run. Our lanes were again pulled first onto a virgin track for the morning. We got 4 time trials, and I'll let everyone speak for their own times. Zilla ran slower this year by about 3 tenths (tuning/heat issues), but ran very CONSISTENTLY slower. All my 60' times were within 0.010 of each other, and my ET's were 14.55, 14.56, 14.57, 14.57. R/T's were all .142-.106. While I ran slower, my traps were higher than in the past. (I really need to get back to work on that stinking intercooler).

First round of Eliminations, I got paired up with a GTP at the front of the field and took him out with a .009 light. That was tough, as I was quicker and had to wait at the tree with him leaving before I got my light. Second round was a Ram-Air Firebird, and I had to pedal for the win as I was breaking out or he was running slow (turned out to be a little of both), and took him out at half-throttle for the last 100' by the barest of margins. That put me into round 3 (semi-finals for the Bonneville bracket) with PDXGTP in my SLEeper, Bugsi, and Randy from Idaho. All 3 of us except PDXGTP went out in that round, sending Thomas onto the finals where he took Second in the overall bracket (lanes 11 and 12 PDXCGP/SEACGP vs. WCBF08).

Both Zilla and SLEeper were VERY CONSISTENT. PDXGTP ran round 1 with a 15.0 dial in, and all the rest of the rounds at 15.1, winning by the barest of margins each round.

Image
Our WCBF08 bracket racing trophy is going to Arizona again, but with PDXGTP this time rather than Echo. It was brought back by last year's winner, SSEiMatt93.

In-car vid of my Round 1 win against a GTP where I ran a .009 light:
Image

I'll get some more track pics up as I get them uploaded.

Edit:
I took home the trophy for Most Consistent with the Zilla's nearly perfect launches, as well as the Best in-class (competition) 60' time with my 0.009. VBCSpangler (Jordan) took the overall (including test/tune) R/T trophy with his perfect light on Thursday afternoon.

Zilla and BoneEvil are absolutely CAKED in tire rubber down the rockers, and both cars have splatters of rubber on the rear quarters, as well as the spoiler. We were slinging pretty good. That'll take a month of sundays to clean up, and I'll get some pics of the carnage up later also.

PB's that I know of:

Echo_SSEi (Bob) 13.6
BoiseGTP (Keven) 13.9
id97GTP (Celine) 13.9
myfirstbonnie (Matt) 14.52 in the 2k (with only a FWI and a 'pdxgtp' tune)
myfirstbonnie's 95 SE (Megan) 15.??
myfirstbonnie's 89 LE (Petraman) 16.????
SSEiMatt93 (Matt) 14.2?
Bugsi (Mark) 15.??
Singscountry1967 (Tracy) 14.9??
VBCSpangler (Jordan) 14.8??

This is all off the top of my head. Both my cars ran .3 slower than last year, but far more consistently.

No, she got a GP GTP when she was down in Corvallis for a few days. She wouldn't run the HHR because it had 20 miles on it when she got it... I'd guesstimate mid-high 16s for that car...

btw, my personal best was 16.83@78 in the 89 with a 2.4 '60

Updated. This hoser :laughing3: pulled 3 PB's in all 3 of his cars. He drove the 2000, Daughter Megan in the 95 (pulled 3 track awards), and Petraman in the 89.

Bugsi emailed me these shots of a fun little bit of pollution Pdad and I embarked on:

I didn't get listed as racing, but I tied my PB from last year with 13.4. But had a better 60' with 2.0 on street tires.

Here are all the videos that Ben took. I think there are a few here. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=shelt54j

Posting the Track and Performance related awards here again for the purpose of thanking INTENSE for their support for the 5th year in a row on our 5th WCBF anniversary. Again, more than half the cars running in our lane were supported by INTENSE and carry their banner on the back window:

Factory Freak myfirstbonnie for his 2000 SSEi running 14.5 ET's on a FWI and PCM tune by PDXGTP
($25 INTENSE Gift Certificate)

Best In-Class R/T willwren (in Zilla on race day for a .009 reaction time)
(INTENSE spark plug wire protector set)

Best Overall R/T VBCSpangler (for a perfect light on Test/Tune day....that's right, both R/T awards live in Corvallis)
(INTENSE spark plug wire protector set)

Best 1/4 mile ET (NA) Megan
$100 INTENSE gift certificate for a standard PCM

Best 1/4 mile ET (SC) Echo_SSEi
$50 INTENSE gift certificate

Best 1/4 mile trap speed (NA) Megan
$25 INTENSE Gift Certificate

Best 1/4 mile trap speed (SC) Echo_SSEi
Stoopid fat hobbit (admin) forgot what he got for that

(NA track awards were VERY closely contested between Megan and Bugsi both track days, and all prizes issued to track award winners with their trophies were donated by INTENSE)

INTENSE also donated three 180 degree thermostats (one went to Bugsi in an emergency early in the meet, and the other two thermostats went to two other members that needed them (many have them already), and there was a 32-second free-for-all for the 12 rear window banners and 24 smaller INTENSE stickers.

INTENSE has been sponsoring WCBF for 5 years now, and we can't thank them enough for their overwhelming support this year again.

Other awards are listed in National and Regional Meets.

A lot of cars run 14's.
So, at risk of sounding stupid...Is that fast for a Bonnie?

My car is not ready for the track. I want everything done to the car that I want done before I think of doing any racing.

I am hoping to go faster than 100mph in the 1/4.
I am also hoping for a good 0-60.

Also thanks to INTENSE!!!!
They have always been very helpful and cool with me!!!
Thanks, Rich :)

Your car will run a 15.0 to 15.2 in GOOD TUNE, stock form. You will not trap at 100mph. Shaving half a second off that is not easy. It's a big margin to make up. Keep in mind, several of the cars running mid-14's at the track this year actually ran low 14's to high 13's last year. Fuel blend changes out West are suspected as the primary cause.

It might be best to start your own topic about this.

Thanks Will, my car isn't really important as I am not racing(yet) but I just wanted to understand the consistent 14's. It seems that Bonnies and Regals run in this zone, then it seems from other forums that Gran Prix's get a little faster and run between 12's and 13's.

Most cars racing are modded. That's a given.
Like I said, I was just curious with the times this weekend if that is a pretty fair representation of Bonnevilles.

I am not knocking times either, I just want to know what is the norm.
Thanks again, Rich
Thanks, Rich :)

The norm is low 15's stock. Grand Prix's tend to mod more than Bonneville owners. Modding will not win a bracket race. The quicker the car, the harder to launch, the less consistent. I seem to have hit the magic 'zone' in both of my cars this year, but I am pushing farther on both in the off-season.

I had a blast this year at the track, the smoke was all for show and without Shadd someone had to step up
No PB for me this year :sad5:
But if you look under my hood and list of mods there reveals a quick reason why. Stock injectors, stock fuel pump, factory fuel regulator all with a 160k miles. At around 1000' the aeroforce showed 21ms on injector pulse cycle and never climbed from there on.

As the sticker says 'Make horsepower not excuses' ......at least I know where to get the parts for next year
