I think the going rate is around $100/hr +/- some based on specialty requested.

However, if it is covered under warranty, GM's warranty, as I would guess any other, pays for a pre-determined amount of "book time" as labor.

Meaning if widget A requires 5 hours of labor, that's what they pay. If you get it R&R'd in 3 hours, you pocket the change. If it takes 8 though, you (the tech, shop, etc), lose.

Thanks but I was interested in getting info on the list of book times, mainly. That'll be the only way I can know if any "padding" is going on. If the tech can beat the clock and still do the job right.......I say good for him! When I do my own work, I probably take at least 2-3 times the allowed time because I'm old,fussy & slow to begin with plus I try to be detailed and meticulous in any mechanical work. :)

Same here.

I don't have access to book times personally. Perhaps All Data might have something, but whether or not it has GXP/Northstar specific times, my guess is, it defaults to V6 times.

Thanks CMNTMXR57, maybe a 2000+ N* Cadillac time would be closer to a GXP's. I wish it wasn't complicated to fit a SC 3800 in that engine bay not to mention all the other differences involved ! I'd really prefer going that route and sayin' adios to the V8. :)

I would add that the DexCool must be changes every 5 years or it breaks down and causes damage to the gaskets resulting in coolant leaks.

I'd have it changed every 5 years regardless of whether it was regular Ethylene Glycol (the old green stuff), or Dexcool. Actually, I usually do mine about every other year.
