USA made radiator needed

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

USA made radiator needed

Post by ytd1861 »

I need to replace the radiator in my 03 Bonneville SE, normally aspirated. Can anyone recommend a USA made radiator? Not wanting to put another made in China part on my car if I can afford not to.

I've found several from the main national auto parts stores that seem to be M.I.C based on prices. I've seen $105 roughly to $185.

My car is a daily driver and not too many mods. If there is a heavy-duty radiator for my car, again prefer USA made, I'd love to know about it.

Best bet? Junkyard salvage an OEM unit.

But other than that, you'd have to look for something custom made; like these for the pre-'00 (the link is to a '86-'89 H-body, will fit all '86-'99 with some minor mods):

You might be able to find one like that to fit the hole in the '00+ and get a custom spout TIG'ed on, or if you take some measurements I'm sure you can get one custom made. Any shop that rebuilds radiators should be able to at least tell you where to get one custom made.

There's an AC Delco at Rockauto for around $300. I'd guess at that price, with that name, that it might be US made.

I saw that one on Rockauto and for that price I hope its USA made. I was still trying to hear other comments; people that possibly bought brand X and they had good results/ knew it was American made.

I thought surely there would be a drop-in made without all the customization described.

Honestly, you're not going to know where it was made. A reman will have a higher likelihood of being rebuilt in America, but with chinese made parts...

Exactly why custom is the only way to know it's 100% made in America by an American. The next level is going to the caster and extruder to make sure the stock comes from America, and before that going to the mines to make sure the raw materials were mined in America.

New AC Delco units have the best chance of being built to the OEM specs or better. Even though the parts might still come from China, the base stock should be correct to spec at least.
