Volant CAI

Post by Bad GXP »

The Volant CAI (Part #15846C) designed for 2001-2004 Cadillac Devilles absolutely mounts and works for the 2004-2005 Bonneville GXP. :btruestory:

With regards to the installation, follow the Volant instructions but you will have to mount the air box using screws or double tie-wraps like I did. Also decided to mount the PCM inside using Velcro tape and one tie-wrap. A little bit of some good old fashion elbow grease and some persistence and voila.

The pedal performance and overall acceleration is much improved and YES the full throttle punch is a huge wake up for the Northstar.

Fuel consumption is actually very reasonable although I was punching it a couple of times on my first drive home...not bad at all.

Overall quality, fit and finish is very good, Volant didn't go with any cheap stuff.
Finally, a true CAI that actually works for the GXP. =D>

Praim and I put this one together last Friday. I'm pretty impressed. Similar function to the INTENSE FWI, the Volant pulls cold air from the same position as the stock airbox - just with none of the restriction.

If you can pick one up for about $200, I'd say it's worth it if you're going after fit and finish. The INTENSE FWI looks a little more crude.

Yup, thanks a bunch Jerry! Your help was greatly appreciated.

It took us about 2 hours total from start to finish (with just a wee bit of chit chat time) :)

Also, our fellow member "espeed" deserves honorable mention as it was him that got me interested in the first place when I read about his experience with Volant. Thanks again! ;)

Note: also perfect opportunity to clean out your throttle body which does contribute to better pedal feel and reduced fuel consumption. ;)

As long as you can seal the incoming air off from the heat of the radiator area, you're fine with anything. Otherwise, in the heat of summer you will get a lean code if I recall. I kept coming up with that when I made mine and left it with just a filter where the stock airbox was. Once I funneled it out the hole behind the headlight and down, it was ok.

I'm glad to see that more folks are using these..I've had mine installed for a year and a half and
live in the humidity of southeast Georgia..and haven't got any codes as of yet. This setup really
does work well and believe me, I've surprised alot of boy racers out there!

You shouldn't. It is a sealed box getting air from the fender and not getting hot underhood heat.
