The other day i bought a 95 SSEI for $800 the stereo was replaced with a JVC but im pretty sureits the bose audio system.I already had a stereo i wanted to install but wasnt sure if it still worked or not. Well i got ready to swap it outbtoday and the JVC seemed to be professionaly installed. It had a wiring harness adapter crimped to the JVC harness.i cut out the crimps and hooked my stereo to the adapter by twisting the ends and taping over it. I didnt work so i just figured the stereo didnt work anymore. So from there i hooked the JVC back up and turn the key in the ignitionand the JVC stereo didnt work either, so now im stuck with radio. The only thing i can think i did different was cut the crimps out. Is this what can be be stopping it from it working. I really love this car but just cant enjoy it without the radio somebody please help me.

Re: Please Help
First...you don't have Bose, it's the Delco system with dual voice coil rear 6x9s and slider gain control for the amp that powers them.
Second...be more specific with what's working and what's not please. I'm guessing everything worked fine before you pulled the JVC out? Is the head unit you put in the car powering on and just not spitting any sound out of it?
Third...have you checked the fuses?

Neither one of the head units power on I changed the fuses in both head units and the radio fuse under the dash

Re: Please Help
The next thing to check before we go any further is a quick powerup test. You will need to combine both the red and the pink wires coming off the stereo (I think those are the colors...you will want to combine the 12V constant and the 12V switched), and hook both those wires and the ground to the battery (or if you have a 12 volt power supply or battery charger somewhere).
If the radios power on you got some issues in the dash wiring.

Re: Please Help
16? Been 16 four times.
Still, would rather someone point out mistakes than finding them after hours of trying to figure it out. Sorry if the limits of text made it sound like criticism.
If this isn't ribbon cable, using wire nuts is a good temporary fix and semi permanent if taped.

Re: Please Help
I stopped to get gas on the way in from school I realized my door chime sounded terrible. After I got gas the gas hand didn't move nor the oil temp, water temp, and boost gauge. So I pulled to over to check the fuses and and of the fuses were labled Door chime, Cluster, RDO. I replaced it cause it was blowned the gauges started back working I touched the Radio volume and it started back working so I'm guessing the RDO stood for radio. Thanks for all your help guys.

Good, now do us a favor and properly wire that stereo in, electrical tape and twisting is just begging for more trouble later on down the road

Re: Please Help
Did you just match up the colors from your new head unit to the adapter harness? It's useful to know for certain that you're making the right connections, as colors don't always match.
When you rewire this properly (which you ARE going to do, right?) -either buy a crimp tool and the proper crimp connectors, or use heat-shrink tubing and solder the wires together. Incidentally, heat shrink tubing works so much better with a heat gun rather than using an open flame. If you go the solder and heatshrink route, do yourself a favor and buy a heat gun. Evan a cheap Harbor Freight unit will work fine.
