Horsepower

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

Horsepower

Post by KelvinVV »

Right now, what I'm looking at for mods are:

-180º Thermostat
Link:

-New Spark Plugs
Link: http://www.3800performance.com/Merchant ... LITE-DP-SP

-New Spark Plug Wires
Link: http://shop.zzperformance.com/store/p/7 ... -Gen3.aspx

-Custom Making Air Intake with K&N Cone Filter

-3.4 inch pulley

-Downpipe
Link: (NEED SUGGESTIONS)

What I'm wondering is how much horsepower I should be seeing after this is all through, and if you would recommend doing anything else/different.

Thanks!

p.s. sorry for all the recent posts spamming the site, just got a lot of questions on where to go.

No to the plugs, no to the wires. Platinum plugs are a no-no in a forced induction engine, they retain heat and turn into a glow-plug. And it's a known fact ZZP's wires are pure junk. Your best bet is to go to NAPA and get a set of their Beldin Premium wires, and a set of Autolite 104 plugs. No need to custom order any of that.

180* T-stat can be bought from Intense or ZZP.

What are you making your intake out of, and where are you placing the filter?

Downpipe: Depends on how far you want to go, but with how cheap headers have gotten, that's almost the better option...

3.4 is going to be too small for those mods, especially without a custom tune. 3.6, or 3.5 at the smallest, will be a much better fit.

ZZPerformance.com makes a great downpipe if you are not looking to run headers. I have their Plog front manifold replacement and 3" DP and very happy with both. Keep in mind when running headers you will need a Grand prix trans dip stick tube and the headers usually need some help fitting correctly w/o leaks (if you go with cheap ones on ebay).

I plan on making the intake out of aluminum pipe and welding it at the joints. Going to try to get the filter near the fender of the very bottom of the engine bay near the opening at the bottom to get outside air

That'd be more of a warm air intake. Not as much benefit to that as if you got the filter out of the engine bay entirely.

2nd the opinion of the ZZ Performance downpipe being a good addition. Try a hi-flow, OBD-II compliant, catalytic converter in conjunction with downpipe.

I would put 1 coupler in the middle for makeing install and fit MUCH easier. Here is mine that i made. I have the lower piece exactly like mine in the pic and couplers if you want to buy them.. You will just need to order a Off the shelf 45* bend from silicone intakes and a filter and you are in business. 3.5" pipe and i would recommend a K&N RU-3130 filter (My local parts store stocks for like $35)

As for power with PCM, 3.4" pulley, DP IIRC i dynoed at like 250hp and simmilar TQ (slightly higher TQ).. I will look for my dyno sheet and update with actual numbers.
