Oil Leak

Post by cougarcat454 »

2002 Bonneville SLE. Where are the most common oil leaks? Valve cover gaskets, sending unit? Changed the oil on the car tonight and there was oil on the oil filter. Sending unit is right near the oil filter right? Need to take a closer look when I have more time. Just wondered if there was a common oil leak problem for these cars?

I had leaky mail seals on mine. oil was always sprayed over the back side of the engine, trans pan and frame. hope you find its something else!

Valve cover gaskets are common (mine are leaking). Check your power steering pump/hoses too. I don't think the oil pressure sending units usually leak, but they do fail. Right now, I'm not sure if my oil pan gasket is leaking or not due to so much grime on the block (haven't cleaned it after buying it yet; too cold).

Common leaks, lower intake manifold, valve cover gaskets, oil pan, trans pan, power steering pressure hose (at the crimp) and sometimes output shaft seal (axle seal). From my experience... I have done all and the power steering hose twice. I finally had the hose cut and made with stainless hose and welded fittings rather then crimped.
