There were a few options on the GXP including the moonroof, HUD, heated seats, the accessory trunk kit, Siirius/XM, and homelink. If it did not have the HUD I would not have bought it. The lack of a moonroof does not bother me. My 2002 Bonnevile moonroof was a big headache. It required repair, it rattles, and leaks, and if you blow out the drains, the fittings come apart by the front floorboards and all the water leaks out onto the floor pan.

ONLY 33K?

How does it compare to your SSEi? Night and day difference, like the GXP SHOULD have been what the Bonneville was supposed to be about all along?

I'm actually considering looking for a second GXP for me. The wife has too much fun with the one we have now!

:withstupid: I'd rather not deal with it if (when) it breaks. I already had to deal with the leaks. The headroom isn't too big a deal, but I do brush my hair on the roof.

Thanks everyone. This is my daily driver replacement for my 2002 SSEi (See my "Love it or leave it" post) in the lounge. I have been trolling cars.com for about a year when this turned up for $9700 in New York. The original owner was a Long Island Police Detective and kept it garaged for the first 4 years of its life. He only drove it about 5000 miles. Then he bought a Dodge Challenger and sold it to his now 74 year old female cousin, who also kept it garaged and put on the other 32800 miles. It was on Cars.com for about 3 weeks when I finally decided to call. I spoke to the owner's son and made arrangements to fly up to Islip, Long Island from Baltimore with $9000 cash in hand (he told me she would sell it for $9000). She lives 7 miles from the airport and picked me up in the car. It looked so nice the first time I set eyes on it. So we went for a 45 minute test drive and back to her house where I spent an hour carefully going over the car. The only things I found wrong was a bad case of curb rash on all the wheels, the original tires were starting to dry rot (cracks visible in the tread), and a couple very small scratches on the front fender and a tiny nick in the rear bumper. The windshield has some scratches on the passenger side like someone ran a razor knife up and down it a few times.

She had the original window sticker, sales brochure and all the maintenance records so it was easy to verify the mileage was correct. I could not negotiate the price lower because someone came the day before, offered $9200 and left a deposit, but she told him I had first dibs. So I gave her the 9K. It is the same color (well close) as my '02 so I brought up my tags and put them on and drove it home. It flunked MD inspection because the fog lights and license lamps were out and both tie rod ends were bad, but that was taken care of quickly. At least the ground wires inside the fog lights were not burned. (See the fog light thread). The car is in the shop this week getting the wheels repaired and a set of Continental Pure Contact Touring tires. And it has that dreaded highway vibration. The wheel repair place has a Hunter Tire Force balancer and the touring tires are softer than the high performance ones so I hope that will take care of it. The car did not come with homelink but Andrew from Bonnevilles Unlimited had one left.

My major mod will be replacing the radio with a carPC with a 7" touchscreen and once finished, it will have Centrafuse, AM/FM HD,. Sirius/XM, Garmin Mobile PC Navigation, Bluetooth hands free calling, OBDII diagnostic software, a DVD player, back-up camera, steering wheel controls that still work, as will door and warning chimes and some extra USB ports. The only thing I will lose is the radio stations on the HUD.

I have seen other 04-05 GXP with similar miles on Cars.com for much higher than I paid so I think I got a bargain. There was one 2 weeks ago with just 11K on it but it sold in 2 days. The price was not listed.

Sandrock,
I like the cleaner look of the GXP a lot. The car has a little different feel than my 2002 SSEi. When you kick in the supercharger on the SSEi, it starts to move, I don't quite get that feel with the GXP, even though it has 45 more hp and a 3.70 rear axle ratio (compared to 3:27) to make up for the lack of low torque at low speeds. In the 1/4 mile, the GXP will win (15.4 seconds @91 mph compared to 15.8 and 89.6 for the SSEi). I think the SSEi seat is more comfortable. The bolstering on the seat bottom of the SSEi had a nicer feel raised in the very front with a nice pocket for your butt. The GXP seat bottom is sort of flat. I also don't like the feel of the GXP steering wheel with part leather and part plastic, it takes some getting used to, especially as you let it slide through your hands to finish a turn. In fact. I am going to put an all leather steering wheel on and keep the original one boxed away. The GXP handling is a little more taught and it has a strut brace under the hood. I am not a big fan of the white face on the instrument cluster. At night the orange lighting glows onto the white background and makes everything look blurry, but it is still easy to read day and night. I can live with that bit I have some thoughts about changing it out with an 05 SLE cluster. I am a little concerned about the longevity of the Northstar engine compared to the 3.8 but the head bolt issue that caused blown head gaskets was resolved before these cars were produced. And the GXP runs on regular gas. But the gas mileage is about 10% less than my SSEi. Both models suffer from the same highway speed wheel vibration and all the other common problems that are posted in the common problems sticky. The gripes above are really minor and I like the car a lot. It will be difficult to get some GXP specific parts in the future. Stock up on what you think you may need now if they are still available from GM.
