abs and traction controll problems

Post by jbp12 »

My traction control and abs lights will randomly come on, also on dry conditions my abs wilcel kick in and tell me I have low traction when I don't and my.brakes will lock as if I was slipping in snow but that
is happening when I am on dry pavement what could be the problem ?

I'm no expert, but I'd say one (or more) of your wheel speed sensors is crapping the bed.

That is the exact same battle I have been fighting with mine for two years. I can tell you with mine that tires, wheel speed sensors, tie rods, wheel bearings, and many other various parts have not rooted the problem. I just unplugged the yaw sensor yesterday to kill the whole system out of sheer frusteraton with it :dontknow:

Have you checked if anything is wrong with the ABS? But I agree with Sirius - check with wheel speed sensors. I'm assuming one isn't reading the same speed as the others, and is throwing on the traction.

You can't just throw parts at it and expect to fix it. You MUST retrieve the codes in order to properly diagnose.

I agree with the WSS being the likely problem. When one of the rears start to have a problem, they are the ones that often cause the system to activate at strange times. Get it scanned somewhere that can read the abs codes, and see if any have been set.

It's A GM
I had a similar issue. my Driver Information Center spit a code for ABS and traction control for the offending wheel hub.
I had to replace the hub assembly on my car since the sensor is in the hub for my car. Pontiac sensors are not part of the hub assembly IIRC.

I had a simmilar problem when i go over a small bump or made a turn with a little dip (connecting side streets) and it was a bad Yaw sensor. i found one on amazon (updated part number from the one in my car, i think its the same as the C5 corvette, search for my post) for like 75$ rather then the $300 every parts store/rock auto wanted. you need to get it scanned to determine what the problem is, they are all easy to fix once you know what the problem is.

these are all common issue so It could be any of them:
* Wheel Speed sensor (any one of the 4)
* Yaw sensor in trunk (thats what mine was)
* Steering angle sensor

X2.

Even if your only option is going to the dealer and paying $70 to have them scan for the codes, unless you are 100% certain what the issue is already, then you will be much further ahead as the only part you will buy will fix the issue instead of throwing money at the problem with multiple sensors or modules before it gets fixed.

So I have a scanner at my school but there are no current cod just history codes sayin that it was left and right frint tires it never said anything about the back i replaced a front driver side wheel bearing because it was bad I need to do the passanger side soon but should I just leave the abs unplugged or should I diagnose the problem I think its kinda unsafe and aggravating to have my abs kick in when it shouldn't

It must be a scantool that can ready chassis codes. Tech2 or similar. Post the exact code numbers.

Some Advance Auto parts stores, or Autozone have the Actron ABS reader that they will either loan out, or read the codes for you. You may want to check into that, if the one at school will not read the codes.
