Re: boxes of happy parts on their way...

Post by yourgrandma »

Got the fuel pump in with some crafty tactics. It pumps gas well enough to show me a few leaks under the hood. The rail crossover leaks which is no big surprise. I had a hard time making that hose, and Ill just have to redo one end of it or find a suitable replacement with 90*s on both ends. One of the main hose connectors where I converted to -an is also leaking. Im guessing its just loose. Pretty tough to reach them down under the brake booster.

The bigger problem is that I cant seem to get the starter to crank. I have power at the main lug of the solonoid and the relays click, but I get no action. Tomorrow Ill have an assistant to turn the key while I check for power at the trigger side of the solonoid.

If I can get the starter to crank, I dont see any big reason I shouldnt be able to try to fire it up.

I has a spare, lightly used but good, set of brushes for the gear reduction starter.

I wouldnt think it would be anything wrong with the starter itself. Both relays click when I turn the key but the solonoid does not cycle. I need to get a helper to turn the key so I can try to track down the proplem with the multimeter.

This reminds me of my buddys lumina. Had a similar situation where everything work but the starter because or the VATS system. I just wired a big switch straight to the solonoid and mounted it in the dash. Hes very proud of his pushbutton starter.

Im still assuming that I missed a connection somewhere though.

As I suspected, power is not getting to the ign side of the solonoid. Both relays are still clicking so the next step i guess is checking continuity between the terminal on the end of the wiring harness and the power out side of the relay socket.

I think.

I would guess it could be the park/neutral switch wiring. Also make sure the battery has been fully charged; I know this car has been sitting a while.

I think it's more likely to be a loose/forgotten wire than anything else since your car was fine before.

Theres always that possibility but at least on fords ive seen with bad neutral safety switches, you could still start the car while in neutral with the brakes applied. I have no idea about this one though. Ill double check the trans wiring. Ive sort of visually traced the harnesses and havent seen anything to tip me off yet.

Have you figured out your suspension plans yet? Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in and say that Intense was thinking of starting to offer a coilover package for the H bodies. I believe they would be around $550 for a pair and $1050 for 4. AGX adjustables are also an option with them for a few extra bucks. They are made to order and look like a pretty solid product. Would probably take around 2 weeks or so to get. Only downfall is that you would lose the air leveling abilities. Something to think about...give Joe a call down there and he should be able to give you the DL.

LOVE what you are doing with this build, going to be badass when its all said and done! Thanks again for taking the extra time to post updates and pics, it has been a pleasure to follow this. I don't think we live just too far apart, maybe I can sweet talk you into a ride when its all done haha. Happy wrenching!

I can't wait to see you finally get this thing going it'll be one hell of a sleeper!

fwiw, if you've got some experience with fabbing a little bit and the money for it, you can make your own coilovers for a little less than the vendors are charging.

Yeah, I looked into making coilovers but for the use this car will see, it's a lot cheaper and easier to just get the custom springs.

They just started maybe a little over a month ago. They don't stock anything, Joe builds them after the orders come in. Below is the link for the W bodies. I'm a but of a newb to the site so I don't know how to make it "clickable" but I'm gonna try, same goes for pics. Nothing has been posted for the H bodies on their site...yet. But if you call them they should set you up. They were talking about it as of a couple weeks ago on their facebook page.

Im giving up on trying to figure out pics, the links to the facebook pics are below...

I did manage to figure out the smileys though. ;)

Maybe you need to check into the return policy on those custom lowering springs haha
