Made a dumb move

Post by jenkins »

So last summer i was dumb and straight piped my car, i really regret it now, and want something quiet or even just quieter. Any Suggestions on what i should do, my buddy accidentally threw my stock exhaust out.

Get a whole system from a junkyard, or have an exhaust shop drop a muffler in there

Make sure you get both a resonator and a muffler if you can't find an OEM system in the junkyard.

Finding an exhaust system from a junk yard is difficult, I've tried. Most of the time they don't try to salvage them and damage them during transportation or just set the car on the ground with no wheels and smash it.

Luckily, you are only half an hour from Morad Parts Company. They should be able to hook you up, although they aren't the cheapest.

I am sure you could find one closer, but if not, I am four hours from Amherst (broke down there a few years ago) and I have a couple here I would sell cheap, they are the dual setup off an SLE and SSEi though.

Or you could get a Magnaflow muffler and have a little more sound without being the droney raspy straight pipe you have now, lol.

:withstupid: I agree, get the Magnaflow mufflers. I have them on my car, and they give a good mellow tone, but aren't quiet like a prius. You can really hear it if you get on the gas, but around the city it ain't too bad.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! When it gets warmer out i will surely be looking for something, it just gets really annoying. I hate when my people know i am around because they can hear the exhaust, and driving on the highway gets very annoying also. Sure won't do a straight through again!

add the longest glass pack you can find to the mid pipe. still decent growl under acceleration and will dramatically cut hwy drone.

some turbo mufflers are going to make it quiet again but flow well. magnaflow, Dynomax ect make them in stainless and cheap.

I stand behind Flowmasters as I have a pair on a completely stock system. They're relatively quiet and sound very good for a 3800. No rasp. Probably because I have the stock resonator.

So the Flowmaster Super 44 will be quiet on my bonne? I am just getting tired of the annoying drone everytime i am on the gas pedal, and its more annoying on the highway.

I was told by a mechanic, that Flowmaster has less restriction in the muffler, as compared to Magnaflow. Magnaflow offers that low mellow tone, whereas Flowmaster has the throaty sound. There are many videos on youtube that have cars with Magnaflow, Corsa, Flowmaster, Borla, Thrush, Cherry Bomb, etc. mufflers. Take a look, and make your pick based off those. Yeah video doesnt sound as best as in person, but its a start.

Lets just say I don't know what I want haha. I want something that is not loud and drony at highway speeds. That is all that really bothers me. Also YouTube videos help very little because all they do is start it up and rev the dang engine a thousand times. I guess I can look for drive bys

I like the Aerochamber with a proper resonator/glasspack on the 3800. But take note that any leak/exit for the exhaust before the back edge of the bumper will result in some level of drone on any exhaust system.
If you find it's still too loud, you can add additional muffler/glasspack/resonators anywhere they fit. But I think just having a muffler back will make the car much more tolerable.

I am thinking of just going with magnaflow.
Any suggestions on certain parts or kits?

Its hard to tell on youtube how the exhaust is on 3800's because on drivebys everyone punches on the gas haha.
but i think it will be quiet city driving and better on the highway!
