Getting a bit blue personally, and they can suffer in the rain (why he hates his 8,000k) but if paired with a yellower fog or driving light that wouldn't be a problem. I don't recommend 6000k, but they're fine, or at least unoffensive unlike 8000-12000k colored bulbs. Its not your DD either.CMNTMXR57 wrote:I gotz 6k in the Caddy! No love for 6k? They will go higher as they age, Most 4300k shift to 5000k or so across their life.
I just get really annoyed by illegal and crazy colored setups, I drive a lot at night through St. Paul or MPLS and see so many dangerous setups that my halogens outperform.

yeah I kinda regret gambling on the 35w 8000k, was hoping for a more LED "white" look. shouldve gone with the 35/55w 6000k bulbs. but I do love my 2500k fogs and lows in this snow we have have now.

Yea, 8k is too much of a drop off in Lumen output.
I have not noticed much of loss at all. My only complaint is the cut-off on the high side of the light. Meaning, unlike a conventional halogen in a regular housing, that throws light out in a broader pattern, there is stuff at the edges, particularly on the high side that I don't like. But that was the case with the stock 4,300's also.

Lane, I heard the GTO projectors are pretty poop. I cant say Ive seen them in person, but I will be buying a GTO soon, so Ill find out.

Projectors are fine. It's that the lights are aimed very low from the factory.
Aim them properly makes a world of difference.
One night, I went out for a cruise and got enveloped in fog. Figured I'd take a rare picture while moisture was touching my car. But you can clearly see the beam patterns;


This is the stock H11 low beam bulb and 9005's in the fogs. The HIR's I have in their now are even better.

I had no idea the lumens on silver stars were the same as stock.
I quit buying silverstars in my teens. No matter the bulb type turn, break, headlight none of them lasted longer than 2 weeks.
I did have the sealed housing style in my 88 300 ZX and those actually lasted. I think they are a dramatic difference when you go from dim burning out bulbs to something new and bright. they are a freaking rip off though.

my headlights are in pretty sad shape. I plan on looking for new housings with perfect lenses first...then looking into projector conversions and much better fogs.

The quad Hella's I have on the Firebird are great. I have them on a dedicated relay. They haven't burned out in the 30 years I've had them.

FYI i wouldnt run any other HID other then a 4300K, that is what the OEM's use and there is a reason for it. The 4300K have the highest light out put of any of the other options. If you do some reading online you will read the same. idealy you will want a projector beam housing but ifyou are running stock the 4300k is going to give you the best for the stock housing.

Thank you, FYI I am well versed in lighting 101, and both vehicles they are in/going into are projector housings.
I also know why GM does what they do as I was trained by them to repair their lighting and digital lighting systems, lighting output/kelvin rating is only one factor in the equation. Longevity, cost, and part availabilty/serviceability are among the other ocnsiderations.
