front wheel bearing replacement

Post by nbro3546 »

Got my new wheel bearings in the mail yesterday and now all I need is that anti-seize compound. Just wondering is there a specific kind I need? Also money is tight so the cheaper the better if anyone can reply with a link. Thanks fer reading y'all :hello2:

Just use high-temp disc brake wheel bearing grease as anti-sieze. Glob it on, it won't go anywhere.

Spray the snot out of the Allen bolts that mount the hub with PB Blaster and wait a half-hour before you try to remove them. And use a GOOD Allen socket to remove them, and be careful. The socket itself isn't that deep and it's easy to round them off.

Before you put the new hub on, make sure the notch for the ABS wire is at the top so you don't pinch the wire.

The mounting bolts on my 98 had Torx 55 heads on them IIRC.
Also be sure to spray the inside of the hub mount where the threads for the bolts actually are in the mounting plate--the heads of the bolts won't wick much through to the actual threads.

If the threads have never been disturbed they act like they had red threadlocker on them from the factory. Some heat on the inside will help break down that threadlocker, but it's hard to heat there with all the metal around to dissipate it.
