Hello from Michigan. New GXP owner here.

Post by MasterMark78 »

Howdy all. I am new here. Just bought a deal to good to be true. I just picked up a 2004 GXP for $5200. I am completely obsessed with it. It's liquid silver and flawless outside. I call him Bob the Bonneville. He has 103000 miles on him and needed a few things when I picked him up. 6 days later I'm almost done. The guy I got him from was going to the army and just wanted pay off for the car. I thought he was a steal at $5200. The guy just did the water pump. And he also did the cat. But once in awhile the engine light comes on with the p0420 code. Got to investigate the code further. Maybe clean the 02 sensors. I did the outter tie rods yesterday and got it aligned today. Drove 1000 times better. Steering is tight now thank god. I got a crack in the windshield I am getting it replaced Thursday. I got a single red bulb in the cluster I got to get replaced. Then I have the dreaded service stability control message I got to clear up then he should be great. I learned from the forum what to look for and I appreciate it. Priceless info on here! I made sure first off to look for coolant leaks. I was nervous about a North Star. Radio display is out. Figured I'd pick up a radio at a junk yard or something. I also checked the mounts and all of those appear to look ok. I do need one foglight. Not sure if its just the bulb or socket yet. Figured that could wait till I did the big stuff. After that it should be great!
I was thinking of putting HUD in this before I did the windshield. Anyone ever done this?? Any help!?! My gxp doesn't have HUD or a sunroof. I thought that was a bit odd. I never seen one without them. I really want HUD lol. Ill throw some pics up tmro in the pic section!

Welcome! I have added HUD to 2 bonnevilles that didn't come with it. It's really pretty simple if you have a little mechanical background.

I do! My parents owned a body shop my whole life. They still do. It's in flint mi. I was thinking of doing it. So I have to take the entire dash out? I'm sure there has got to be some plugs in the cluster I'm guessing. Any advice hints or tips?

Yes you have to remove the entire dash. The center council and front seats will have to come out too. You will need a new dash wiring harness, HUD dash pad, HUD defrost ducts, HUD projector, HUD control switch and a HUD windshield(optional). Once you get started if you need any help just let me know, I can probably walk you through most of it.

If you're going to replace the windshield, get a HUD windshield. That way you don't end up replacing it twice...

Yea thats what I am going to I ordered it, it gets put in tmro now I just got to find the parts. I think a junk yard may be to hard at the moment. Its like 15 degrees out here today lol. I think since it requires a ton of labor ill wait till spring. Thanks for the info everyone! I really like this car and I just want it to be perfect!

I always thought HUD was standard on SSEi and GXP cars. Interesting.

Welcome aboard. Have fun.

HUD became optional in 03. It was standard 92-02 on SSEi's.

Congrats on the new ride and welcome to Pontiac Bonneville Club
I know I'm late but definitely get the HUD windshield I used to work with windshields/Chip repair and once you replace it you usually never get the factory seal back.
