Karen and I are going to hash that over tonight.

1st-Black
2nd-Darkish grey
3rd-Deep dark red/cranberry

Although, I DO dig that metallic orange like what's on the Sonic. Will most likey go a metallic no matter what color. Several factors went into this decision...biggest reason is my health. I'm at that point where no matter how much I want to continue wrenching, I just can't do it like I used to. At least when this portion is done there really isn't much else to do to it, and what needs to be done can be done while driving it.

My son really likes how the car is shaping up. Matte black goes with anything  Since I am wrapping in vinyl, I can run with it for a year or two, tear it off and go with a different color, and keeping the door jambs matte black will either complement or contrast nicely with whatever color.

I love the look of the door pillars wrapped in the vinyl you used. I think the deep dark red/cranberry would be awesome, but it is your car and you should pick the color that suits you best. just my 2 cents. The work looks like it's coming along very nicely. Too bad I'm not close enough to be "under foot" every once in a while - lmao. - BC

Honestly id spray it black. Its gonna be a nightmare doing a color switch. And honestly out of place of you repaint it any color and dont do the Jambs, under the hood and the trunk.

Can't go wrong with black, but I also think a really deep navy blue would look great as well.

Finally got it figured out. It's staying black, but with a twist.

Going back to the Lexus black that I had the '97 painted with, but with a small amount of fine metalflake and pearlcoat. With this, the shop wants the car fully assembled, which I can see. But, I know there's going to be spots that'll be missed doing it that way (like the skirting, and the rear bumper where the tips come out), so I've compromised some stuff.

On car - doors, door cladding, front bumper, fenders, hood, trunk.
Off car - mirrors, skirting, rear bumper, spoiler.

Since I replaced many parts up front like the condensor, trans cooler, etc..., I'll mask off everything inside the bumper to keep those looking nice. Yesterday I reinforced the front bumper air dam with angle aluminum channel so I can add a chin spoiler

Well, due to my ever changing situation here in Oklahoma (been affected by the government sequestion, and will probably lose my job if our contract can't get renewed), I've had to do some cost-cutting of my own. Painting the car by a shop went out the window.

So, that leaves me with very little options. Little, cheap, options...meaning painting in the garage. Wife gave the blessing to do the painting in the garage, on the condition that there are no fumes that would harm the grandbaby. AND I can't paint while the baby is here (weekends and some workdays). Again, that doesn't leave much, and it definately rules out any custom colors or metallics. So...what to do?

Enter Tractor Supply. Their tractor paints are soy-based oil enamels, thick, and dries hard...even harder when enamel hardner is added. And when properly finish sanded and polished, the gloss is actually pretty good. One thing I don't understand though, is that the clear coat is lacquer...so using that over the enamel doesn't make much sense. Anyways, I have the passenger side jambs done, and aside from a few runs that can be sanded down during the detailing phase, they came out pretty good. I've reassembled both of those doors, put all the rubber back on aside from the window sweeps, and realigned the panels.

So, that's where it's at right now. This week I'll flip the car around and do the driver side. Actual painting will probably happen next month. If it lasts a few years, it'll have done its job.
