call me cold in chicago!

Post by wader2k »

My driver side front window would not roll all the way back up yesterday morning. I can hear the motor turn briefly before it gives up, but I couldn't get it to budge the window at all and I didn't want to risk lowering it any more.

Ended up ordering a replacement regulator on amazon for $80. I did the rear one last summer, but it's COLD out there now.

I have it taped up with plastic until I can get it fixed. Shop wants $150 with my part to do it and as much as I hate it I hate working outside in zero degree weather even more!

One thing I am not sure about - I took the door panel off to have a look see and I couldn't get it to budge at all. How do you get the window up far enough to line up with the holes in order to loosen the saddle/clamp bolts on the regulator? Seems like this could be a pain with it stuck like this.

You'll have to remove the motor, IIRC.

one thing for sure is the weather in Chicagoland has been dreadful the past few days. I was freezing outside just the short time it tiik to replace my headlight bulbs.
I dint know if it really has any effect, but I always make sure my car is warmed up all the way before rolling any Windows down. plus it prevents me from going through any of the local drive-thrus on my way out.
bought my regulator on Rock Auto and the shop only charged me $50 for labor.

Before replacing parts, make sure it isn't just jammed somewhere in the track/drive mechanism. If you've done this and there is no free-play, that tells me it's jammed and replacing a regulator, motor, or whatever else isn't going to do much. Cold does odd things. Stuff contracts, especially in guided mechanisms such as a window, so when you open it, it goes out of alignment, then when you went to close it, you jammed it.

Cold? There is 12* of warmth out there right now. 1* is 1* of warmth...
