Linkages free but still no full boost? Super Charged Newbie

Post by STAGE III »

L-67 in my 2000 is not getting but a few pounds of boost. I can't remember what it is called but I pulled the vac line as explained and the linkage moved freely (mabye operates waste gate?) but still only half boost. Error code PO-243 : Turbo Wastegate solenoid

Do I need a new part (okay to buy a used one or better off new?).

Thanks got the car looking good and now it is "All show and no go" and dying to feel this thing at full boost (never owned a supercharged car before  )

Thanks for any suggestions and parts sources.

Do you hear a squealing belt at all? I'd check the belt and make sure the S/C tensioner is good. When I re-did my top-end and did some other mods, I had a tensioner pulley go out and it wasn't giving me full boost, because the belt wasn't turning freely. Fixed that and OMG did it make a difference.

That is the kind of story I want! ha ha

No, no belt squeal.Probably wouldn't hurt to put a new one on though can see some drying out but again very minor.I was drooling over those "Gator" super charger belts on that Intense racing site. Can those be bought cheaper anywhere else?

Only thing that has gone bad on mine was the pulley on the snout of the SC disentegrated just as I pulled up at Advanced Auto several months ago.Clerk sold me one of their generic one's and even insisted on nstalling it for me for free (I still bought him dinner).

if your getting a boost control sol. code then you either have a faulty BCS or most likely a vac leak. i would check all the vac lines 1st before replacing the BSC. if it needs a BCS check rock auto, they are not very expencive IIRC.

Post about P0243 (ended up replacing the BCS and fixed, but i would still check the vac lines.)

Shane
Thank you for the picture and diagram. I checked all you are showing there and found no.leaks so I guess I need that part.

I will look that up.

Appreciate it :beerchug:

Under Low-Boost: http://www.3800supercharger.net/diagnosing.html

That explains the diagnostic procedure. If that doesn't fix your issue, it's not it.

What process did you use to check the vacuum lines?

Grooooan.....well I appreciate you fellas being patient with me. I am slowly but surely learning what and where these parts are but looking at this tech post (thank you for linking that, I did research and see it but then obviously forgot what was what).

I did do the other test on You Tube on pulling the vac line off what I now know is the BCA (it extended and retracted as shown it should). I have in no way checked the BCS now that I see what it is. Thank you again for posting that.

You will be shaking your head on how I checked the lines, I ran my fingers all around the diameter of them from beginning to end of what I saw and slightly pulled on it looking for sheared or badly cracked lines. I read here one night about a smoke test or spraying starter fluid or an equivalent and listening for revs, but I have not done any of those.

Car has 130k on it so probably would not hurt to put new lines on it (guess Auto Zone carries that type and size?) that will remove my operator error that way too.

Okay, I am back in the game now that I know what and where the part is. Thanks again gentlemen.

Auto zone won't carry the stock line, you can buy the plastic t's and rubber hose and make the T-fittings though.

You can't always see the cracks, so the sure-fire way is to spray them with carburetor or brake cleaner with the engine idling. If the idle picks up when you spray an area/fitting, then there's your leak.

Ok I will do the spray test and see if that is the culbrit. Those lines look kinda of prone to becoming very brittle so I will make the switch you recommended to old school more pliable rubber hose and T's. Don't know where he got.it but I like the red rubber vacuum lines in the the earlier post. My engine compartment is pretty clean but some spiffing up with some nice red lines that match the red ribbing on the motor would be sweet!

LOL, the picture above was done in Microsoft Paint, illustrating where the lines are...

Nope white circle, did I call it the wrong thing? Still learning the new names after coming from old school "no replacement for displacement" big blocks.

Correct, that's the Boost Control Solenoid. It's a solenoid because it's electronically actuated to dump boost in certain situations. I had to replace mine once as well, got the new one from harofreak00. His price was significantly cheaper than you paid.

Ive been messing around trying to find out why I have no boost unless I zip tie the bypass shut. I mainly suspect my vacuum harness but Ill try a BCS for hoots.
