Oil pressure switch went bad??

Post by RunningWolf »

:helpsmilie:
Last week while doing the brake job, we changed the oil. 5w-30, the PSI gauge reads 40 at idle near 60 0r 80 mark while driving normally. Today I put gas in and checked oil, fluids, tires. All good. Start the car back up, the gauges run the normal cycle, from 0 to 120 back to 0 then to 120 and stays there.
Cars running fine, no changes, no leaking oil... I'm of mind to think it is the oil pressure switch has went out. What do you think?

From reading other post I know I need an AC Delco, and a special socket to replace it. What is the name of the socket and where can I purchase one?

Where is it located and is there an pictures anywhere that I can look at to aid in location?

Of maybe a post/topic/pdf with procedure to replace it?

I'm assuming I have to drain the oil for this or part of it anyway...

Or is it something else I should look at?

Thank you for the reply and link! Had searched for info but couldn't find or over looked the article in the results. Figured it was relatively ez replacement, couldn't locate it, or the switch. Also wanted to confirm my diagnoses.

I'm beginning to think Celine has a love affair with the jack stands and my wallet! Or just loves the attention. Lol

It is above the oil filter. I suggest properly supporting the car on both sides with stands--I used homemade ramps of solid wood. Ideal if you have a lift to use. Remove the oil filter. You'll lose about 3-4 ounces of oil, prepare to catch it. Then you can use channel locks to loosen the sensor. The tool some mention is a deep socket that fits over the whole sensor. Mine was not that tight on my 03.

Remove the wires from it. Then you can turn it by hand. The replacement Delco has sealer already on the threads. Do not overtighten. REinstall old oil filter. Check oil level after running to check for any leaking from new sensor.
