Car has been sitting for one year, need help!

Post by FWDmoparLOL »

This SSEi has been sitting for one year just in the driveway and we started it up once in a while but now the battery is dead, before we stopped using it the engine was rebuilt and it has less than 500 miles on the rebuild, now my question is:

What all needs to be done to get the car in shape again? what fluids need to be changed? The car has zero rust as it is a Florida car so that's good.

Any help will be appreciated, we want to get it running again so we can just sell it

It's a 2000 pontiac Bonneville SSEi w/ leather HUD blah blah everything, also what kind of oil and how many qts does it need? I tried searching for that info but no luck.

Thanks

How long has it been since the last time it was started and run for several minutes?
If it's not 6 months, I'd just try jumping the car to a good battery, start it and let it run until the engine is completely warm. I would consider putting in 5 gallons of good fresh fuel first. I'd check the air pressure in the tires and use a portable pump to put them up to the 30 or 32, then drive it.

If you are in a cold climate with the car now (rather than Florida mentioned), the discharged battery may have frozen and may be damaged.

Oil change , fuel sytem cleaner ( i like seafoam ) put whole can in fuel tank and add fresh fuel . check all fluids !

change fuel filter and do oil change first . ( warn car up to 150 deg before you dump the oil , so you get all the moisture out of the engine .

Battery is always gonna be dead after car sits for awhile . Also get battery and charging system tested at parts store . make sure the battery didn't go bad , due to low voltage drop for so long .

DRIVE IT !!!! LOL clear out those comb webs with some decent acceleration from 0 to 60 . you will see allot black smoke come out of exhaust when you get on it . ( this is good to clear out all the moisture, carbon build-up from sitting . and get all the moisture out of the exhaust from condensation ) .

The car specs 10W-30 oil, and 4.5 quarts with the stock oil filter.

Just pour a can/bottle of your favorite fuel cleaner in the gas, change the oil & filter, fuel filter, and drive it.

ok thanks, I will do all that this weekend

how much do you think I can sell the car for? It has no body rust, no body damange, it did have 210k but the engine was rebuilt with all OEM parts at a shop with all receipts. I know I won't even get 40% of my money back but oh well.

No idea, where are you at? I'd say $4000 max...
