Low oil and Antifreeze

Post by stevenmamos »

I have an 04 Bonneville with just over 100,000 miles. I'm guessing I'm about 2 quarts low on oil and there's no antifreeze in the tank. The previous owner replaced the intake manifold gasket (with the good one). Is it the gasket again? Help please!

Was the upper intake manifold also replaced? Over what period of time and mileage have you lost the oil?

Not sure about if the upper was replaced or not. It's been just over the past 2,000 miles or so.

Yeah I've done a replacement before on my 96 Bonneville so I know how to do it...just wanted to be sure that the issue was the intake manifold gaskets.

if its the intake gaskets you would see a few things.. Leak around the intake gasket, smell Coolant burning (sweet like waffles/syrup) or coolant in the oil or buring off (white smoke) from the exhaust.

If it was just done, it may have had air bubbles the burped out and resulted in a low overflow tank. have you topped it off and has it kept running low? did you check the radiator (when cold ofcourse)? if its low then fill it up 1st or it will keep drawing from the overflow.

as for the oil, check for leaks around the drain plug, oil pan gasket, oil level sensor, valve cover gaskets and ofcourse intake gaskets... again i would think you would see leaks or smoke if the intake gasket was leaking.

Hope this helps.

Actually, decided to tackle the job this afternoon and went ahead and replaced the upper and lower manifold gaskets. Hope this solves my problem!
