My friend's friend had a G8 GT and it got backed into in a parking lot IIRC, and insurance totalled it, he bought a GTO.

If you just mash it, it's gonna go real fast, and it's not the torque management. It's the suspension, and it's a good thing. If you want to burn them off, start with the brakes, then liberal amounts of gas.sethjamesrimrodt wrote:I would try to save up for a G8 GXP. I have never ridden in an SRT-8 but the Hemi's aren't anything special in my mind. If you have a hp tuner you can make the G8 GT get after it, if you don't have a hp tuner the GT's have some massive brake tourqe reduction. It makes it really hard to do burnouts or donuts.

Sure. Must have been parked behind the guy in the commercial that buys the extra large container of coolant. You know the one with the massive dump truck. lol

Tech wise the choice is the SRT. It has the Nav option and hard drive option the G8 can't match that. Based on handling the option is the G8. Comes down to what features make you happy.

Re: Srt-8 300 or G8 GT
I can't speak much for the 300, as I've never driven one, but I do think they look real nice and classy on the outside (again, don't know about the inside), but there seems to be a lot of them running around the town I live in. So, they seem pretty popular here.
On the other hand, I really enjoy my G8 (of course I always wanted one since they arrived here in North America), and there are only 2 or 3 others in town, so it stands out much more. I'm not worrying about the parts thing - that will only be a concern IF something happens to the car. Only thing I wish the G8 had was a Nav system, but from some reading I've done, there's apparently several ways to remedy that.
I'd say, ultimately, it's up to you, but I'm going to lean towards the G8.

As far as seeing them around, the SRT-8 is waaaaay different than seeing your neighbor's V6 Touring... the SRT is a totally different animal, and car guys will know it when they see one lol.

Re: Srt-8 300 or G8 GT
I guess I forgot to point out that the commonly seen 300's here are SRT-8's, there are at least 10-12 of them in town. In the neighborhood where a friend of mine lives, there are 3 300 SRT-8's, at least 2 V6 models, several Chargers (old and new, with I know of one being a new SRT-8), 2 Camaro's (a V6 and an SS), a 370Z, an Evo, and a WRX.
Now that I think about it, there are a lot of powerful cars on that street (and most are cool people), but yes, there is a lot of high powered Chrysler's in my area, so they are very common to me.

Re: Srt-8 300 or G8 GT
hmmm... as Pontiac owners, no one here should be bashing other car's interiors lol... Even the G8 I drove had occasional rattles and some wind noise and it only had 44,000 miles... I wouldn't say the interior on either car is any better than the other. Though there is more wind noise in the block shaped SRT. Both have perks, but I love them both!!! The fact of the matter is I would have a car that I could mod, go fast, and look good... Those things alone would make me happy, and both cars would fit the bill... I don't really care about the fuel mileage. No different than driving the BonneGXP or the truck everyday... I'll still get around 20mpg from the research I have done. By the numbers, they are pretty darn close in all aspects. So really the SRT is probably the better buy... The Brembo brakes alone are almost 2 grand. Plus an extra 70+ horsepower for almost the same mpg, I think I have made my mind...

Re: Srt-8 300 or G8 GT
Okay, so I had my buddy bring his 2013 300 SRT-8 by last night so I could take it for a drive. Guys, I have to be honest, the G8 comes no where close to this car in performance or styling. I mean, this is a beautiful, powerful car. Albeit, this car has only 300 miles on it, so rattles and such were non existant.
I'm with Jerry on this one. The SRT-8 would have to be my choice.

Re: Srt-8 300 or G8 GT
That is because your car is still currently IN production. Once the VF platform takes over in the next year/two, you will be in the same boat as us GTO owners. Even though there was a substantial increase in demand of your VE car vs. the VZ before it, the Holden plant can only source make sooo many parts to meet production needs (they were working three shifts at one point in time), for cars that are physically rolling down the line. Much less spares/replacements. So once that conversion takes place, unless you live in Australia, expect parts to get difficult to come by here for a vehicle and brand that is no longer in existence, selling the product. So the remaining parts in the SPO network that the remaining GM dealers can access won't have a lot left in it, whatever they can get.J Wikoff wrote:No one has really proven that parts will be slow and expensive yet. They are just going by what seemed to happen with the GTO.
Well, you all know my feelings on Chrysler, so I won't beat that horse, and you all know my feelings on Holden products. I love them but loathe them since they are from across the pond on the west side of the country. You'll face parts scarcity, and if you get a scratch on the paint, the car will be totaled by insurance. Much less any actual sheet metal damage be done to it.
Even with that in mind, I'd stick with GM (color anyone surprised there), and get the G8.

Re: Srt-8 300 or G8 GT
Yes, this is something to consider. We can't paint Chrysler with a broad brush because of a few lemons. For instance, my parents have an '05 Town & Country Limited with 120k on it now, and in 50k miles of ownership only dealt with sway bar end links, a power steering pump, and regular maintenance. They've had 2 Dodge and Plymouth minivans before that with very few issues. Every make has their cars to avoid (Intrepid, Neon, etc.) but every make has some good as well. The Hemi has proven to be a good motor, and my friend with the 300C gets up to 26MPG with a light foot, and it's every bit as fast as advertised. (Interesting fact, the SRT8 in consideration is capable of 172 mph). I've yet to see an issue yet on the M-B designed 5 speed auto. either, whether V6 or V8. Maybe the interiors of a '05+ 300 aren't quite as luxurious as current stuff, but....a lot of us are coming from Bonnevilles and other 3800 GM's that are pretty much the king of cheap shiny plastic...00Beast wrote:Yeah, I know Chrysler really upped the ante with the re-designs of stuff to up the quality. I've driven 3 300's ('05, 07, '10), an '05 Magnum R/T, and 5 Chargers ('06, '07, '08, 2- '10's), and while the more basic models are a little cold and spartan inside, I've never driven one that rattled or felt anything less than solid. The '08's had some nice upgrades to the interior that make it a little nicer inside, and going to a higher-end model adds a lot of nice trim and materials that spruce it up nicely. In my opinion, an '05 300 Touring interior still makes an '11 Impala blush. Chrysler has improved since the horrible 90's, and really stepped up their game since the 2011 refreshes across the board. I'd lean towards going the SRT8 route myself.
